If it's being held here means at some point we have one the thing after 100 years of trying!! So when was that??

That speed on water is phenomenal experience, we regularly clocked 20kts + with a max 24 in our Melges 24 but these cats are a completely different ball game. A non sailor would be crapping themselves at anything over about 14.

I have an 18ft version of these and have made many of the same mistakes as in the video below.. it must be terrifying to capsize on a 45ft boat.. i can't wait until the 72ft versions are ready.. they are going to be awesome!

Did 20 on a former AC one in Auckland. Was surprisingly dull.

Proper impressive stuff.... shame I didn't catch it live 😥 Although I'm not convinced about the merit of running the AC in the monsters this series is very good. Certainly make my Finn look a bit mundane 😳

Me likee the AC. I've followed the racing (and some of the politics) ever since I started sailing.
The current format is a huge step forward for all concerned and is proving that the traditional way of thinking is now redundant. Thankfully they've moved forward, got some decent boats that capture the publics maginationa dn hopefully show that not all Yachties wear deck shoes and blazers (thank gawd)
This stuffs full on flat out, tactical, powerful, exciting racing and should at least be watched for a round or two by Joe Public.

Just proves the new format an boats are having some affect, it's got a few STW'ers chatting about it, wouldn't have thought that when they were racng the Slugs.

So once you've overcooked it and capsized one of these boats. How do you go about righting it again.

They're incredibly light boats.. they can be righted by pulling on a rope with a small powerboat.

Not necessarily..... they've been forced by Mr Ellison to use monster multihulls that are very fast but that's about it.
The faster boats go the less tactics are involved as crews are only interested in going quicker than the others and not falling over so as far as they're concerned the fewer tacks and qybes they have to do the better.
I can pretty much guarantee that the current qualifying series in 45' boats is going to be as good as it gets as once they move to the AC boats there will be fewer boats on the track, much further from the shore so spectators will see very little and they will not take the same risks as they're doing now. The last AC was probably the worst on record - regardless of how quick they were going it was like watching paint dry.

I popped down to Plymouth from Taunton to watch this afternoon. Lovely sunny afternoon on the Hoe watching the sailing, much better than working.

Finals on now. Watching the Youtube streaming full screen on our 42" plasma though the AppleTV (and XBMC/Icefilms) and the picture is really good with no buffering.
Very impressed.

I popped down to watch it from the Hoe again yesterday, stuck at work today with no Youtube access. 😥
I've been impressed by the Youtube picture quality on my VieraCast Panasonic.
