It’s an absolute masterclass. I’m not putting it on though or I’ll end up staying up too late…

I’m no gamer, but Alien Isolation is a brilliant game that really captures the spirit of the original film. Well worth seeking out.

I borrowed it from a mate.

Spent two hours shitting myself. Didn't see a single alien.

Looks like another late night. It’s a masterpiece. One of the best films ever made. For the year it was made, the sound, the set design, the lighting, the cinematography… all just on another level, creating an atmosphere of brooding menace. Terrifying

Seen it god knows how many times but I’ve started it so it’d be rude not to finish it

^^ All spot on there.👍

Mind you, that bloody cat!

Not going to lie, id have left it and got the hell out of Dodge!😂

Even that is genius though as cinema crowds much have been almost screaming at the screen telling her to leave the bloody thing as they couldn't cope with the tension either!lol

Then when she is on the escape ship getting the computer prepped to purge the air... Holy hell, I still remember how tense that was to watch when i first saw it on tv decades ago.

It's such a fantastic movie. I watched it recently having not watched it for ages and was surprised by the fact that it didn't look too awful, whereas things like RoboCop for example are horrendous. The director's cut of Aliens is one of my all time favorite films (Yes yes I know it's a sequel etc etc not as good as the original blah blah but still...)

It's almost the platonic horror sci-fi that has left it's mark on countless films that came after it. Ridley Scott at his pomp. From 1977 to 1982 he makes The Duelists, Alien and Bladerunner. Should've stopped after that.

Absolute classic. I have the remastered Blu Ray and it looks like it was made yesterday.

The alien pilot is probably my favourite scene in the movie. Really disturbed me as a kid. I think it's because it's so 'alien' and supposedly so old that it exudes a sense of cosmic terror, H.P. Lovecraft style. It wouldn't be the same movie without H.R. Giger's art direction.

Alien and Aliens masterpieces. Removing the sentry guns scene from Aliens theatrical release was a mistake I think as it really ramped the terror/drama.

They really should have ignored Ash when the baby alien popped out and just killed it then.

Both films still look amazing. It's only when you see some of the non-cgi models or computer screen bits which show the age.

The pulse rifle sound in Aliens is my all time favorite movie sound effect

If you have a VUE cinema near it's worth keeping an eye on what they are showing. Mine in Newcastle has shown a number of old films I never saw first time round as I was too young ie Top Gun, Jurassic Park then looking at my emails I saw Alien in Oct 20 and Aliens in Sept 21. They were going to be showing Bladerunner but not sure if that's happening now. Christine is showing in a couple of weeks

Indeed. They put Alien on not long back as a late night performance. I'd never actually seen it on the big screen and it was absolutely awesome. I remember the scene where he's walking around looking for Jonesy being particularly terrifying

That's a coincidence - I was looking for that earlier in my local Vue listings but it's been removed. Was meant to have ben showing in November, I think?

Alien Isolation is brilliant, captures the look and feel of the original Alien film brilliantly.  Hiding in a locker has never been so tense!

I've seen Aliens once or twice before, many years ago now, I'd never seen Alien though.

I was just about to switch TV off and go to bed last night and just so happened to watch the first 5 minutes... needless to say I rolled into bed at 12.40am once it'd finished! What a film. Can't believe I had a good night's sleep after watching that to be honest.

It took me back to the days of playing Alien 3 on my SNES.

Saw it at the cinema when it came out. Extra atmosphere added as you could smoke in cinemas at that time so the ambience was as dark and smoky as the interior of the Nostromo

IdleJon yer it was there couple of weeks back listed although with no viewings dated but now not at all

Recently got 360 Alien vs Predator and that had me being very abuse to the TV at numerous points when things jumped out on me! Bit like when I tried to play one of the more recent Doom games.
Can someone remind me how it was 'raining' inside the ship? Was it actually just the humidity in the cargo areas causing this?
Now I've started thinking about Prometeus and Covenant and how much they annoyed me for a large number of reasons (although were an OK watch first time at least)

Yep, Aliens is a magnificent film too, better that Alien in some ways. Anyone ever noticed the sort of "suppressed" noise the Marine's guns make in the film, almost a "clipped" sound, best sounding conventional weapons in a film ever.

As for the sentry guns... It was criminal to have cut that scene out. I'm not into guns but seeing them absolutely tearing the aliens to bits as their ammo count gets nearer and nearer to zero is a fantastic scene.

That scene alone is why i only ever rewatch the SE of the film.

Close but not quite. Every gunshot in Raiders Of The Lost Ark takes that prize.

But yeah, I've seen Aliens loads but Alien only once I think. Both very different films but equally great. Wonder how much the Alien BluRay is on Amazon?

Alien, and Aliens are both superb films, but for very different reasons.

Alien, the suspence and psycological horror, and slow creepy pace.

Aliens, the quintessential 80's action film, with some horror and sci-fi for good measure... with a million quotes and burns...

The director's cut or special edition or whatever it's called restores a lot of stuff and it's a much better film for it. There's an early scene where Ripley is watching a video of her deceased daughter, I can see why it was cut but it's a framing device for her relationship later with Newt. Without that scene she's just someone looking out for a lost kid, rather than a mother who blinked and lost her own.

One thing that took me years to realise despite them being amongst my favourite films, the actor who played Vasquez was also John's stepmom in Terminator 2.

Wish I'd seen it! I might look to see if I can stream it.

Had a slight obsession with Alien and Aliens etc when I was a teenager. I used to get the tube to Forbidden Planet every weekend and spend all my pocket money on comics and graphic novels.

Does anyone else here remember Alien War in the Trocadero in London? A live action show running around with marines shooting aliens as they jumped out at you. The props, set and acting were all awesome, totally immersive and pretty scary to a 14 year old me. At one point the lights went out and (you guessed it) an alien jumps out and grabs someone (me). Argh!!

I watched it when I was around 10, I just remember it being dark and grainy (VHS) and we waited ages for the popping out of chest scene. My mate did have a model of the Alien which glowed in the dark which was pretty cool.

I walked through the 'set' after it'd ended its run. Both very cool and kinda gutting that I couldn't experience the Experience.

It was criminal to have cut that scene out.

I think the opposite is true of Alien, of all the deleted scenes that are available; Lamberts death in wide shot, Brett's much more gruesome ending and the cocoon scene with the bodies of Dallas and Brett are much better left out. The first two for obvious suspense value - plus the Alien in Lamberts death just looks stupid, and while it may have been nice to round out what had happened to the missing crew members, it doesn't add anything to the story.
The only deleted scene I think was worthy of re-instatement was a fight scene between Ripley and Lambert as they're watching form the window as Dallas and Ash examine Kane, caused by Ripley's refusal to let them back on board. It explains why there's very unresolved tension between the two for the rest of the film

I feel the need to now watch Aliens.

It has to win some kind or award for the sequel that veers off most completely from the original, but then does it in a completely bloody brilliant way

That's the genius of Aliens, it doesn't attempt to re-run the first film, it takes a character and an idea, the xenomorphs, and just runs off in a whole new direction with them.  The first film is a brilliant piece of cinema, but Aliens completely surpasses it as a piece of world building and design.  Its the best sequel ever in that regard.

In many ways though its a victim of its own success.  It was so good at building a world that it then became nailed on franchise material.  None of the follow ups have ever came close to the brilliance of the first two films.  In fact the 3rd best Aliens "film" is a videogame.

Directed by Cameron and Scott (at his best) it's not a massive surprise.

Although panned at the time, and for all the off stage issues when it was mired in re-write and production hell, I'm prepared to argue that  A3 is actually a pretty good film, It's solid, has some great direction (Fincher) has a decent plot, some amazing actors, and nicely finishes Ripley's story. Everything past that has been dross.

Its certainly not a bad film and compared to the absolute dross that followed it, it stands up pretty well.  Trouble is its competition is the finest sci-fi horror film ever made and the finest sci-fi action film ever made.

For me the stand out disappointment is Prometheus. Its just a complete mess of a film and such a wasted opportunity

Oh, fo'shure, it's half the issue with it, by its own terms; a fine movie. In comparison to the previous two; no, it really isn't. But in comparison to all the Prometheus, and Alien vs Predator shut-up-and-give-me-your-money  fleecing horseshit that these two franchises have managed to cobble together; its a very good film.

The Aliens fly to earth and battle Skynet in order to save humanity so that they can use them to continue their own race ie for growing cute little baby aliens inside

There’s a directors cut of Alien 3 that’s an improvement on the theatrical release. With some better special effects I think it would hold up better.  It did generate an Image that was fairly iconic, Ripley with her shaved head next to the drooling alien.

The original plot treatment for A3 was for a very different film that would have been really interesting to see.

I saw Alien in the cinema when it first came out (knowing nothing about it beforehand) and can confidently state I almost shat myself.

Years later it was on TV (pre video recorder days) and I was a little underwhelmed.  I think it was the 4.3 aspect ratio of our old telly in the eighties.

This YouTube video confirms why:

Recently treated myself to this classic on 4K disc it was a bargain price too!
