As the title says, if you only watch one Manga/Anime film, try this.
Cheers. Set to record.
Top film, and utterly insane.
Is it good?
Cheers for this. Haven't seen it since watching it on my vhs copy. 🙂
If ghost in the shell does well I predict a live action Hollywood Akira 😥
Live action version has been mentioned quite a few times, cost usually scuppers it and popularity in the western market.

Pretty sure it ain't going to happen, the recent talk about it has ended up with the project being abandoned.
Main problem was it was going to be entirely American: based in LA or New York, can't remember which, with western cast, and that just won't fly with the fanbase. GITS, on the other hand, despite the Internet whining about it being 'whitewashed', and being set in a future Japan, specifically Niihama, or New Port City, the members of Section 9 are all western in the way they're drawn, particularly Batou and Motomo Kusenagi, who is a full-body cyborg with a cybernetic brain, so basically has little to no Japanese genetic make-up.
Let's face it, can anyone point to any character in this pic and say they're Japanese?
Contrast with this poster made up of a collection of images from Akira, and they're all very Japanese-looking, or at least as ethnically-Japanese looking as anyone gets in Animé/Manga.
Need to dig my DVD of this, not watched it in years.
Just finished Death Note on Netflix, which was very good

Thing is, if you're making a Hollywood blockbuster, the Western fanbois* are a minority and can lump it.
(* - some sort of French liqueur I think.)

Absolutely right. According to Ruari Robinson the reason it was initially shelved was nothing to do with white washing, it was purely budgetary. $200million for a hard R rated film with no stars just wouldn't fly.
It's been through multiple iterations since. A trilogy being the most plausible sounding one to me.
