Use the code-

gogogo

It's on the front page of their website so it's not secret or anything-

https://shop.meridianfoods.co.uk/

but it's handy of you like their stuff and want to stock up. Free pack of peanut bars as well if you buy a peanut butter.

This is the best PB hands down. I literally cannot eat Sun Pat now (which used to be the gold standard when I was a kid) or any of the supermarket ones without gagging as they taste so artificial. 🤢

I've tried a few of the 'healthier' PB's, and so far they've been ****in rank, is this any better? I actually want something that tastes like Aldi crunchy, but no PO in there.

The only ingredient is peanuts. No salt, oil, etc etc. So if you don't like the taste, it's you that's wrong 😀 hth

It tastes like actual peanut butter because that's what it is. It doesn't taste like the supermarket crap with added sugar and oil.

Huge PIC peanut butter fan. Does need a good old stir when you first open it and before each lathering. I don’t like the cost at £4 a jar but there’s few luxuries in life for me being a non drinker and no smoker!

Thanks for that.  Normally buy Meridian, but they didn't have any in Lidl last night so I bought Sunpat*

*Which I was suprised to read does not contain palm oil. Reading label more closely it does have cane sugar and salt though - so why put 'no added sugar' on the front label?  Gak.  Buy in haste, repent at leisure.

i find the best peanut butter is the Waitrose Wholenut one. Does contain a small amount of oil, and salt. But no sugar, and it is 98% nuts.

Salt and sugar's fine if that's your thing but it doesn't need any bulking agents in it. I found the Meridian skin-on peanut butter quite harsh but the no-skin peanut and seed butter is ace -

It's proper belter and that.

Morrisons do  peanut butter that is 100% peanut

I very much like the crunchy variety - given how nice it is not sure why others feel  a need to add oil let alone sugar and salt.

It's the USian way.  Salt and sugar became simple, cheap replacements for taste.  And sugar is addictive.  So after a while you get 'reliant' on salt and sugar.  Without even noticing.  Your taste-buds soon become the equivalent of a binary device that detects and demands only sugar and salt.  Me like salt.  Me like sugar.  Me like Superpops.

Then they can sell (and we will buy) any old crap as long as it has a load of salt and sugar in it.  Healthy tasty stuff now tastes 'bland'.  Ultimate irony.

Case  in point - the other week I bought a bag of Walkers Cheese and Onion for the first time in a good while.  At the pub.  With a pint.  I actually spat the first crisp out. Read the label.  'Sugar'?  WTAF?  They wrecked a national favourite.  Wouldnt be surprised if the US has something to do with it.  Yet the kids'll never know.  They are already addicted.  I now sound like an epicurean anti-globalist conspiracy theorist.  Oh christ.  Don't even get me started on the demise of pork scratchings...

Slight tangent, but anyone make their own? What peanuts work best? I'm assuming too salty unless plain nuts with a bit of salt added rather than blending some KP's.

Meridian label says '100% whole skin peanuts, produce of more than one country'

So just plain old peanuts.  No salt.  How you actually make it is another thing.  Interested to know now ... ie  do you roast or boil them before grinding?  We could be paying quids per jar for some whizzed up bird food that can be made at home in seconds 😂

If you read the side of the Meridian tub it says roasted.

Just made my first batch of home made stuff - very easy and surprisingly good.

Roasted plain nuts in oven for 10 mins, chucked in a blender with a bit of salt & some sunflower seeds and let the blender work its magic for 5-6 mins.

Peanuts a bit pricey so might look at wholesaler and experiment with some other ingredients next batch.

Aldi also do another peanut butter alongside their usual crunchy/smooth brand, which is 100% peanuts. It's only £1.25 as well.

Needs a bit of a stir to separate the fat which settles on the top but, for no apparent reason, I find that strangely reassuring 🙂

I make my own nut butters using the method above. Buy your nuts of choice by the kilo, put a few handfuls on a tray and roast for 10 minutes, then put in a food processor. They'll get all powdery, then suddenly start turning into the end product after about 10 to 15 minutes.

Almond butter is particularly awesome.
