To numb the boredom I'm thinking of buying a PlayStation to play GTA5, despite my friend's advice not to saying that I would be better off buying crack cocaine because its less addictive.

What's the difference with the pro, slim and how much tb do I need to play gta?

Fanks in advance

From memory, the GTAV install on the eggsbox is about 50GB.

PS4 Pro supports 4k games (and HDR I think). Original PS4 and Slim are technically identical for all practical purpose (I believe the Slim dropped optical audio support), the latter is in a smaller box.

I’d get a SH regular one if you want something to play right now, as the PS5 isn’t far off now.

Pro has better graphics than slim which I believe are your two choices now. However, Sony mandated that all games must play the same on both devices, the Pro is just more eye candy. Given the regular PS4 is powerful, the difference is subtle but it's definitely there. Look for videos on YouTube comparing them.

GTAV isn't dangerously addictive, IMO - it's just a decent story to work through and is pleasing. But don't rush, as there is so much brilliant stuff to explore in the world which isn't even part of the main plot. But it is brilliantly done and in many ways a unique cultural icon.

As for TB requirements - no idea how many I have, but it's not full. It's like 25Gb per game or something, for a big one? It's typically not a problem cos even at that rate you've got room for 40 games in 1Tb and no-one has that many games on the go at once.

True but previous generation consoles keep support and new titles for quite a while after the next gen comes out. We only got a PS4 about a year ago.

Gta V wont benefit from the Pro as no patch was released for it to be enhanced like with my Xbox One X.

I'd definitely choose the pro, as I can see the first two years of next gen having games on both the PS4 Pro and PS5. That's what Microsoft plan to do with the One X and new Series X.

I’d definitely choose the pro

... assuming the OP has a 4k telly.

Over here in my Xbox world there's little point in me upgrading to a One X as I'd need to replace both a high-end 1080p 42" TV and the AV receiver which only supports HDMI 1.something.

Don't think TV is 4k, just ultra HD.

Thanks for the responses, but I'm still none the wiser which one I want.

Try nearer 100gb for a big one especially digital download.

It’s 4K then.

We have both in the house - If you can afford it, get the pro, it's not just better graphics, it's also faster. This was noticeable on Jedi Fallen Order -

Same thing.

If you want to play games other than GTAV that might have 4k support, and actually care about them being in 4k, you'll need the Pro.

If you don't, get the Slim as (per the above advice) GTAV isn't a 4k game on the PS4. Unless they patch it in the future I suppose.

RDR2 is something like 90GB on my PS4. I'd be getting a 1TB slim (I have a 250gb slim and need to upgrade the disk).

I had a look at prices earlier. 1TB non-Pro models seem to be non-existent, all the Slims look to be 500GB. Though at least with the PS4 you can just fit a regular drive as an upgrade, the Xbox uses some stupid proprietary format.

Can you use USB HDDs as additional storage?

You can use an external HDD on the pro to increase storage. I'm pretty sure you can even install games to it as long as it is USB 3.0 compatible

Money not an issue then I'd personally get a Pro, even if you don't have a 4k TV. On demanding games (e.g. Red Dead Redemption 2) you get a more consistent frame rate and less frame skipping. There's not that much difference though and you can pick up a regular PS4 for sub-200£ if you watch out for deals.

They're like £130 - £180 second hand at CEX. (Pros are around the £250 mark.)

If there's not much price difference, get the 1GB, but even if you get the 500GB, you can plug in a USB drive, I got a 2TB one for about £50(not SSD, just a traditional spinner).

500GB is limiting once you get by 3 or 4 games, particularly if those games have big updates regularly as you need space to download the updates.

My 500GB has space for BFV, and COD Modern warfare. Leaving about 150/200ish GB for updates, all my other games are on the external drive.

As for Normal v pro, no idea, I've only got a 1080 tele, so normal works for me.

I got a "regular" PS4 after a bit of reading, I'm not much of a gamer so didn't see the point in splashing out more for better versions.

Only thing is, my one is noisy. I don't mean "oh, I can hear it a bit", I mean really really disturbingly noisy when it's working, like no console I've ever owned. Apparently better versions might be quieter, which in hindsight I would actually have paid for. It's also possible mine is just knackered...

Just get the standard PS4. The Pro is not worth the £. All you get is memory (it has enough anyway) and graphics (you need to be forensic to spot any improvement).

And the PS5 will be ££££ when it come out later this year. Talk of £500+ which is PC type money. I can't see a mass rush for that as I and no doubt others would rather a £500 Gaming PC than PS5.

The Slim ones are a lot quieter than the original ones, I believe. Or so I read earlier today.

I and no doubt others would rather a £500 Gaming PC

I'd be impressed if you could build a gaming rig for that sort of money.

It's not that expensive in real terms anyway. The original Playstation launched in 1995 at £299, which adjusted for inflation would be £580 today.

PS4 and Xbox one were £480 at launch and sold out no problem at all.
Can’t see the PS5 being any different.

OP definitely get a 1tb model. My Destiny 2 install with all the add ons is over 120gb. I’ve the 500gb and can only fit 2-3 full games on before having the delete one. Remember that the drive will need working space to allow updates.

Depending on what you like playing there are some decent Pro bundles with a three games for about £50 more than the non pro. You’d probably get that difference back come resale time. That’s where my money would be.

Just get the cheapest one available as ps5 is due shortly.

In gta, purchase the buzzard first. Message me if you need gta advice, I'm addicted to it and therefore an expert! 🤣

I have an original ps4, used heavily and still going strong. I have had to attach a usb 3.0 external hard drive for more space. I’m currently playing the free Modern Warfare battle royals game Warzone which is 140 GB. So I’d suggest get the cheapest from somewhere like Game that includes a game or two you’d like to play. GTA V is cheap 2nd hand.

Right finished work so got some more time.

Go for the Pro if the prices are sensible in Germany, frame rate is better and they run cooler. 1 TB goes surprisingly quickly especially with digital downloads. I took delivery of a 1TB usb Drive yesterday just to give me some more comfort to add old game back on.

4K games look absolutely stunning too so well worth it. PS5 is months away best part of a year I’m saving up now though.

Ended up with a slim 1tb with GTA5.

220€

That's me sorted for the upcoming lockdown..... That is at least what I thought. GF gets home and her first words were "No. No. No. No f-in way!".

We'll see if she changes her tune over the next few days.... 😁

Thanks, guys!

As we head to our bunkers, a bit of STW gameplay might be fun. I’m going to be playing Call of Duty Warzone for the foreseeable (I’ve only played three or four games so far). I’m not particularly good, but I’ll happily follow orders. It’s cross-play for PS4, Xbox and pc.

PlayStation name: Django2357

Perhaps a new gaming thread is in order. They’ve been game specific before iirc (RDR2 springs to mind).

Ah, nice. Good price, makes me fancy another : )

If you subscribe to PlayStation Plus, which you may well do, you get a couple of ‘free’ games per month. This month it’s Shadow of the Colossus, and Sonic Forces a sonic the hedgehog game - maybe she’d play that with you.

Talking of PS plus, how essential is it for making the most of the console?

And secondly, has anyone used one of the discount key websites to buy PS plus membership? Seem to offer a good discount, I’m wondering if there’s a catch?

Good if you want go play online but not essential.

As long as it’s genuine source then there’s no catch.

I've used both ElectronicFirst and CDKeys for years. Would happily recommend both.

Probably the fact that I'll be even less productive than I currently am.

I had a snes (?) years back and all i ever played was lemmings... I was more than content. I'm sure I will be now
