Noooo!
I got my PS3 on launch day so it's been going for a few years. It turned itself off in the middle of a game of MW2 today and now won't turn on.
I'll call Sony tomorrow but does anyone know how much they're going to charge me? How long will it take to get back to me? Should I just buy a nice new slim one?
Even though this has happened to me I feel your pain.
I have heard that Sony customer care is as good as it gets so hopefully it will be a speedy resolution.
New site started up in the last few days by a group of fed up consumers.
jebus...that's bad. I've grown rather attached to mine - losing it would be like losing a friend (not that I have any real friends since I got my PS3, just on-line ones). Good luck.
I'm on hold trying to speak to Sony now.
Internet opinion seems to be that for £130ish, Sony will send me a refurbed PS3 in a couple of weeks and I may get the disk thats stuck in it (MW2) back after quite a few weeks.
Think I might just bite the bullet and go and buy a new 250GB Slim PS3 today. At least they're not £425 anymore, like I paid to get mine!
My lads did this a few months ago, he got his on "launchday" as well.
Used an independant guy who "sorted" it. Costs £ 80.00.
No point contacting Sony as they are only warrantied for one year.
Loads of dust inside causes this RLOD. You can ramp up the fan in 5 stages and it sounds like the PS3 is actually taking off its going that fast, it clears all the dust out but if you do it too long ot blows up. Do this by putting the unit on its side but the wrong side if you know what i mean (fan on the bottom) and it will automatically start.
watchdog did a section on this, something about the connections inside are a bit iffy, they sdet up a van with two guys that repair them and could fix them in minues, opened up a free repair shop for the day in one town, may be worth a look on the WD site to see if there are any links to the guys??
the laser went in my ps3 (release day special). I got sony to replace it with a warrantied refurb unit for £130. I think there is a way of force ejecting disks, but can't remember what it is..
my console arrived after 2 days. Worth baring in mind you'll loose all your save games etc.
oh t'other thing, sony are quite flexible with the warranty dates, if you're within, say, 18 months.
Mine has just started playing up and freezing . Just had to reformat the drive so hopefully that will have fixed it . Considering trading up to a slim before it goes totally tits up.
