Anybody had this done and how long till you ride - the nurse said a week!

Dear God/Jesus/Allah and Buddha my ass hurts!

At the moment sitting with a biscuit and a cup of tea so they can check my pee.

Feel like I've been in prison with some big burley men who have taken a liking to my toned rear cycling butt.

Had a high PSA, MRI, now the biopsy and day off work!

Cancer is *%##. Get your PSA tested at 40 and then find out the test is rubbish in the first place.

Give it a week.

I should never have had a PSA test after an infection, a complete waste of mine and the NHS's time.

I was about 2 weeks off the bike, then the results 😥 Then radical prostatectomy, then 2 months off the bike.....

That was nearly 3 years ago, diagnosed at age 48.

PSA test is not rubbish, but it is an index test, so it is how it trends that is important, rather than an individual value,

Mail in profile if you want any more info, or need to talk..

Hope you're ok now Ian. That's a lot to go through.

Glad you're ok Smiffy. Best to be save than sorry though.

My Father (68) had the same as you in April Ian, urinary control was a challenge for him.

We rode 30 miles together 2 weeks ago.
He's getting full control of bladder - it's a slow recovery.

Thought I'd get tested too. Dreaded high PSA, digit check, MRI and now needle biopsy.

God it hurts! Big girl blouse!

Have to give a shout out to the loverly NHS staff - they've been great.

Pah, radical prostectomy at 48? I'll raise you a radical cystectomy, age 43 😕 🙂

Well done on your recovery IainC and good luck Frankenstein!

Good luck, my Dad is going through all this at the moment, Hes just gone 80, the nurse said she could pull in 20 blokes his age off the street & 19 would have it.
His GP also mentioned it (Prostate cancer) is common in cyclists. I havent looked into validating that.

Never seen any evidence that cycling makes prostate cancer more likely. There's a few of us on here, but I think that's more down to the openness and supportive nature of the folks on here. You have my sympathies Frankenstein but hopefully results will be good. Oh, I think I was back on the bike in a week to 10 days, 2 weeks should be fine.

The surgeon that did my op said that 90% of men die with prostate cancer while 10% of men die of it....

So yes, most of us will get is as part of ageing and in many of those cases it will be slow growing and not hugely impactful. For the younger folk, self included, who get a diagnosis in their 40's or 50's, it is more likely to be an aggressive form, with potentially different outcomes.

IANAD, there are others on here who are and have different opinions...

Being 62 and having had a uti, I've been going through the checks, thankfully all clear but this afternoon I'm facing a flexible cystoscopy as my final "investigation" after the infection. Even when results come back clear it's worrying enough so all the best to you lads who aren't so lucky. Roll on 5pm, it should all be over by then

Cycling raises your PSA level (as does sex within the 48 hours before the blood test).

OP I assume your biopsy was the trans-rectal type. One to two weeks off the bike should do it.

Looks like mine went with the template biopsy in 2015 as the 2016 one was clear. Blood tests for the next ten years to keep an eye on PSA with new style MRI if an upward trend shows. (Thank heavens for medical advances as the last biopsy knocked me sideways). I'm officially low risk prostate cancer, woo-hoo.

Thanks for the support Everyone - appreciate the advice too and good luck to others going through or recovering from cancer.

It was weird being naked in front of 3 women - I should have been happy - my missus jokes.

My Father was told he could leave it being 68 years old as it was so slow but it had migrated to the outside of the lobe. He never ate badly but doesn't eat any green veg.

I have an appointment in mid Oct for the results - it worries me but then I just get on with things and will have to think about it when I get my results.

So far MRI clear, digital finger clear and ultrasound showed slightly enlarged 33cc instead of 25cc which I'm hoping to be the cause of 3.3 PSA but best to get biopsy and treated early if there is cancer - still shocks me but nothing I can do so why stress?

Sneakily I took a day off work - butt feel a bit sore but a lot better than after yesterday's needles. But if blood (clot) on stool but nothing in urine and peeing normal and taking 3 days of antibiotics/gas- if this info helps others to what to expect.

Feels weird to be off the bike for 1-2 weeks but it is raining heavily here (rather heal up and reduce infection risk) and putting my feet up.

Dear Universe, if I'm clear I promise to do more cancer charity work - I do donate after my both parents had this.

Seems surreal. Take care people!

Doctor said he was going to give me a digital examination. I was expcting a couple of questions about C++ syntax. Imagine my surprise!!

Seriously, just had the dreaded biopsy today and while I don't recommend it as a way to spend your Monday morning, it was much less unpleasant than I expected. Three anaesthetic needles of which one stung a bit, then some uncomfortable probing around with a pointed object, and a dozen loud clicks as the needles went in. In fact the biopsy needles were not a problem. A couple were a bit painful but otherwise OK.

First pee was alarming - like Dracula, and my bum feels like I just shat a ball of barbed wire, but generally OK.  Now just need to wait for the resuts ....

"Have you ever had a prostate exam? Well don't worry, it's not unusual for it to cause an erection"
"Really doc? I'm quite limp"
"uh yeah, I didn't mean for you"

Prostate exam is one of those things I can read about and agree that it's dumb men don't go and get checked sooner, while simultaneously never wanting to get it done myself. It's stupid.

I've been having problems for the past 2-3 weeks - lot of pain in the lower abdomen, testicles and around my hips……GP said this morning that it's most likely Prostatitis and she's put me on a course of antibiotics (could be 4+ weeks before I notice any difference, apparently…..) and I need to go back in 10 days, or sooner if the pain gets worse

interestingly though, the first question she asked when I described my symptoms was "are you a cyclist"……? So, is there a connection?

I asked my doc about getting a PS test done when there was some publicity and encouragement to get it done.

He refused on grounds that there was not a specific reason.

Velocipede. As above cycling raises your PSA level. There’s a correlation but no evidence currently of causation.

My testing started as a result of regular UTI’s, kidney infections every February and an inability to drive 40 minutes to work without needing a pee stop during the trip. Your GP may be loathe to put you on the path without good reason.

Lots of free info from the prostate cancer charity along with a free phone helpline.

Im also getting one of these to show my support or the work they do, as my dad died of Prostate cancer.

https://shop.prostatecanceruk.org/Cycling-jersey

Some of the treatment described in the info is a bit painfull by the sound of it, as is the result of a positive test.

My PSA get's tested due to meds that I'm on. It's been 1.6 at maximum, and that's usually after cycling to work, then going for the blood tests at the hospital near.  The digit exam isn't too pleasant - more worried about the feeling that I was about to poop myself - you 'feel' like you are about to lose 'control'.

Yeah. Best empty your bladder first cos pressure of a finger makes you feel like you're going to piss.

Hope you guys are ok.

Yes it’s uncomfortable and sore for a few days.

Didn’t pee blood but sex was an eye opener for 2 weeks!

Most men (and sexual partners) do get shocked by the bloody ejaculate which can last a few weeks. Some practioners encourage sex after a few days rest to clear the tubes.

Cancer testing or a diagnosis is scary but stay logical.

I had prostatitis many years ago, my urine had the consistency of scrumpy cider and stank of rotting flesh. Scored a full sweep on the urine test strip, which surprised the GP as people don't normally piss out their own kidneys. Ended up having the 'finger' test, X-rays, ultra-sound, radio nuclide Renal Scintigraphy....

Yes, nobody warned us about that, I suppose it should have been obvious but it did come as a bit of a shock 🙂
