A friend of mine has recently split up from his partner.
They bought a house together 6 months ago and entered into a two year mortgage (doh!). She is willing to surrender her claim to the house and walk away from the situation completely.
Unfortunately, the bank are unwilling to offer my mate a mortgage in just his name - so he's a bit stuck. He's able to cover the mortgage, but is worried she might return to make a claim a few years down the line.
Will evidence of him paying the mortgage be enough to diminish her claim?
He doesn't want to sell as the break fee on the mortgage is mahooosive and will completely wipe out his deposit - leaving him with no home and very much down.
