Following on from the Edwardian house thread, i live in an old 18th century Farm House which we renovated 30 years ago it was derelict new roof the lot.

It was well done and i keep in top of stuff, however i seem to do about half a day a week fixing stuff (DG units blown, odd leak, decorating, locks, doors, windows, tap washers (swapping to ceramic as i go) loo overflows, log burner seals, switches .... it just goes on and on)

Do the rest of you have the same s**t

Yeah there's always stuff to do I view it as part of owning a home

If it was just a house or investment I can see why folk would stand by but I like my home and don't want it to fall down round my ears.

Always fixing things. One thing I notice is the people who don't have to fix things tend to take less care..

Part of owning a house I'm afraid. The type of house you have affects how much time it takes.

I'm not a very practical person, so don't do much beyond decorating and really simple stuff, but local tradesmen love me.

Tinkering with the house is absolutely my happy place - I’d go nuts in a new house that didn’t need fixing

No, not really.
I moved here in 96, did a pretty much full refurb on the whole house. Since then, there has been little maintenance, just upgrading of things. New Kitchen and bathroom. Decoration of some rooms, our bedroom is still with the 1997 wallpaper, and looks OK, if a little dated.
A couple of light switches have needed to be changed recently, but otherwise, few things have worn out, they've been changed for newer ones as we decorate again.
I have had 2 boilers in that time, first one lasted around 6 years which was disappointing, the current one is 10+ yo now, still going strong.
2 DG units need changing, (glass has fogged) but that can wait, and it's cheap - less than £50 for the glass, and 20 minutes each to do it.
