Proof of No Claims

I'm trying to sort a new car insurance policy and the number of years no claims discount seems to be making a significant difference, my current insurers only count upto 9 so the only evidence I have is my current schedule saying '9+' . In reality I have more but not sure how I go about proving it should I need to, been on phone to current insurers to ask if they can provide evidence to my full history but not very unhelpful. Anyone had similar?

Thanks

If you’ve been involved in any accidents while you were driving and it’s been declared on a claim they will know. I’ve never been asked for proof.

Presumably, the max NCB discount will be capped at a certain percentage.
If I was getting quotes on-line, I'd be playing around with the field which you enter the number of years. Start with something stupid like 50 years and then reduce it in big chunks (say 10 years) and see what happens to quote (probably nothing to start with).
When you see the quote change, you know the last two numbers are the point where it starts to make a difference, so you can go back and start adding more years (gradually this time) until it starts to make a difference.
Then you'll know what the max number of years is which actually affects quote. If it's nine or less, you know the answer...

9 years is usually the maximum no claims, even if you've not crashed for 20.

I have been asked for proof for donkeys years - just assumed they’re checking via the insurance database these days. Have you actually been asked for proof?

You just get the previous insurer to confirm it in a letter or email. Pretty simple really.

Precisely how it’s done.

And yet I've always been asked to supply proof of ncb not every company does it the same.

Hadn't been asked for proof just didn't want to be in a position if we had a claim and were asked for it. Current insurers will only issue a certificate saying 9+.

Have been rifling through filing cabinet and found an insurance certificate before ticking over into the 9+ category so reckon that would do as some sort of evidence, but like you say assume they have something somewhere to verify.

Thanks

I've been asked quite a few times for proof of NCD. I've had letters in the past, but last ensure sent me an email confirming 20 years NCD.

The Meerkats had a 11 year automated record of my NCB this year,  but the old insurer letter said 9. I thought I'd best let the new gang know, their attitude was, yeah , what evs.

It's a massively logarithmic scale of discount,  difference between 9 and e.g. 15 or more years is probably 3/4 of **** all. Just ring and ask.

I normally get asked for it and just forward email or attach in some portal or other. My current policy is based on 0 years NCD (but 2 years “other” no claims on a co car). Difference in premium between 0 years and the 12 or so I had before the co car? About a tank of fuel. Think it went from £450 to £550 or something over the year.
