Hole = new roof. 🤣🤣🤣
It is the gift that keeps giving. I love Binky.
They can't replace the roof*, it's the only part of the original shell left shirely?
ANother excellent episode and it's motoring on towards finishing!

.*of course they can
Am liking the skid factory references and one tanned hand song once againg had "what the bloody hell you watching?" Comments.
I enjoyed that more than the last one or 3, but it really feels like its dragging and that they are dragging it out. All the early ones with mind blowing levels of fabrication, mechanical problem solving and vehicle dynamics type knowledge were great. The recent ones, yes its imprssiv to see the level of detail they go to but now..well...I'm jut not so impressed by door cards and centre consoles. move it on, get it painted, get it finished!
Get some funny looks from my work mates when I tell them it's Binky night, love it.
did they tell us what happened to the melted seat?
Little bit more like it. I agree it's been a bit slow over the last couple of episodes, there is only so much electrical loom and routing work I can watch, but it seems we're past that phase and heading more towards there finishing of the initial mock up. Then they'll be taking it apart and prepping it for final assembly. I'm looking forward to the refurb of the engine and transmission...I can't imagine they're just going to give the rusty engine and suspension a bit of spit and polish and bolt it in, hopefully it'll be a full on strip down, refurb and incorporation of a few choice trick parts.
It’ll be really strange to see it finished...
Lord only knows how long that Qvale / De Tomaso / MG will take, there’s about 2 years worth of brackets in rebuilding that 205 alone.
This Makes Me Very Happy.
Hard to find good quality anything to watch nowadays!
New side project
Going to be needing some brackets.
Lots of brackets.
Can only imagine what they're going to do with this, hydraulic/mechanical platform for the car transport area, for sure. Binky flipfront, times 100.
Seems to be still overweight despite stripping it - makes it look like a non-starter?

Nah, they only want to lose another 300 kilos. I reckon that would be relatively easy. I bet there is 50 kilos to save by swapping the seats out for something modern/composite. Take out those big skylights and frames and replace with ally sheet and/or smaller plastic vents. Then start getting creative with the hole saw 🙂 and start replacing heavy 70's lorry components with alloy ones (header tanks, radiators, air filter housings, fuel tank etc.). Like bilding a light bike. Save a few grams in enough places, and it is amazing how it all adds up.
That's what I thought. Don't think of it as trying to find ways to subtract weight, find ways to add lightness.
Bonus Binky!!
Has it really been 6 years?!!?!?!? :0
Has it really been 6 years?!!?!?!? :0
I know, seems so much more! 🙂
Anyone else also follow Cletus Mcfarland's channel? It's the total opposite of this.
I've followed it for a few months and in that time they've bought a shagged Corvette which had been struck by lightning and in those few months it's now on its third engine, second transmission, second big turbo, second or third sump and runs 8 second passes on the drag strip.
24 is up
genuine LOL

Brilliant! Thanks! Bedtime viewing sorted.

Yep, loved it.
I'll admit to not knowing what a charge cooler was/is, I think it's a alternative to an intercooler, but I've no idea how.
I love this series. They are both seriously talented guys.

I'm thinking it uses water pumped via small radiator to cool the incoming air rather than cooling the incoming air via big pipes and big intercooler (hence why they are using)...? Any mechanics
more bonus binky 🙂
lol @ the lego
And the lifting platform now makes sense 😀
Adding lightness, I wonder what will go in to replace it?
Guessing some sort of cummins turbo motor will go in there. Did anyone else guess the weight of the engine. I was only 8 kilos out with 750 kgs 🙂
They've got a mini engine spare...
Adding lightness, I wonder what will go in to replace it?
something requiring a bracket or two. 🙂
they would have made a fantastic 2/3rds of a scrap heap challenge team, though actually being happy with and finishing the project might have been an issue!
Two things are apparent from these videos.
1) there's a lot of red dwarf references
2) im spotting the red dwarf references
Something turbocharged and 4wd I hope - Impreza escargot?
What did Guy Martin do with that Merlin engine he had?
Obviously a 16v71 Detroit Diesel is the only choice. Nothing sounds better...
Of course, if we want to keep it British, then the Leyland L60 Tank 6 Cyl 750 hp two stroke Engine
Not sure those engines fit the "loose weight" brief but I can't find a weighted for the L60.
Did anyone else guess the weight of the engine. I was only 8 kilos out with 750 kgs
I went 950 !
1000HP - check.
187Kg - check.
The Rolls Royce Gem.
Ooh, there's one on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/153471895152?chn=ps
Murray

Never mind the weight, just listen to the music of a V16... 🙂
Epicyclo - I'm not convinced that an L60 is the way to go, least not if they want a vehicle transporter that can, err, go anywhere!
The Leyland L60, the Chieftain's Achilles Heel.
Peeep eep
I wonder what the extra weight of brackets on that thing is going to be 🙂
they say it's nearly there...but it's got to all come apart to get prepped, painted, do something with the interior...and I really hope they do something special with the engine and drivetrain and not put that rusty lump back in...some nice fabricated suspension parts, fancy adjustable suspension, engine strip down and rebuild with some fancy pistons, con rods, cylinder head mods and the like. Will be really disappointed if they do nothing more than give it a jet wash and bolt it back in. Looking forward to the finished article though.
they really could do with a cnc plasma cutter.
just get it done already!!!!
my guess is they may send the engine out to be worked on, or they do the engine and gearbox mods while the car is off for paint.
I thought they'd said (very) early on that the engine that's in there is a scrapper, just for fabrication purposes?
they really could do with a cnc plasma cutter.
Noooo...!
I don't think Matt Urch's channel (Urchfab) has been quite as interesting since he got the CNC cutter - Pretty brackets, etc. but a bit dull to just see them appear without any manual dexterity.
Binky! It's been ages!
Literally just paused a Skid Factory to watch the new Binky, I guess we know who the dominant crazed modders are...
I shall savour it in a while, retropower have also just dropped another Gordon Murray escort video too
That charge cooler. 😀
Also, hold my beer. LOL.
1001 comments on why this'll never work, go!
My Latin isn’t great.... Through the nose so something something ?
I had to fabricate some metal work earlier in the week using stainless steel, a grinder, drill and pop riveter, yes I was humming some funk whilst I did it
"Hold my beer"
they really do have infinite amounts of patience to keep this going. Amazing project
That kept me going in the wee small hours. Brilliant stuff.
Truly insane levels of detail going into this. Really can't wait to see this finished! (As long as they do a new project)
I'm getting bored of it now. Completely respect the detail and effort going into the work, but the episodes are a lot less captivating lately. The wiring ones were tedious and the non wiring stuff has been bracket, bracket, bracket. The washer bottle was perhaps a highlight. I think for good viewing the last 4-6 episodes should have been done in 2. As I said though, the work they do is great, I am just at my bracket viewing limit.
I've not reached my bracket or gusset limit yet, and I even enjoyed the wiring, even if it was a slight promo of their actual work, they gotta make a living too.
As to other projects, they've got the ex-library bus, the rally car and the incredibly rare MG
I'm enjoying the escargo more than binky atm but that's just the nature of the build, there's a lot of tidy up happening. But tidyup's still important, if you want big changes done fast and badly watch cleetus or something.
Project Binky Q & A

Next project is an MG SV, we’ll they’ve got the body/shell.
It’s not really an MG it was De Tomaso and then a Qvale in the 90s and finally a near broke MG bought the design and stuck the same Ford V8 they put in the 75 for a bit in 2003. Anyway it’s a mongrel of a thing which were made in tiny numbers so it’s going to be really interesting what they make of it.
Can't believe they're close to stripping it down for paint. Although I'm guessing it's still probably another year from being finished 😁
Had to go back to page 11 of chat, it's been a while!
Whoop!
Feels like the end is close.
It's not.
Glad I'm not the only one that hates self tappers.
One of the best recent episodes imo. Proper lol moments, but also a bit emotional to see it nearly into the last phase.
Still a couple of years left in it yet though I reckon...
After all these years just seeing the arch extensions in black instead of yellow is a bit of a shock to the system.
I watched a couple of old ones recently, Ep1 “however many months its takes” 6 years later ha ha. I’ve just been watching Star Wars with my daughter who’s younger than Binky.
One of my highlights of Christmas Day was watching Binky finally stripped for paint! It’s been a fantastic project, but like others have said I can see it dragging out until at least this time next year
They've got the engine to do yet, hopefully they won't just chuck a stock lump in there!
Engine, suspension refurb and paint, interior upholstery, plus at least 6 months for bodywork prior to painting...
Then dyno testing, further engine mods, and maybe it'll be "finished".
Project cars are never finished.
I'm interested in how they'll get it registered.
It will need to be a q plate surely as transmission/ power train changed. Though it is still technically a transverse 4 cylinder.
I’m interested in how they’ll get it registered.
Interested too, but I'm guessing that it still has the identity of the original mini, so will keep the chassis / reg no. It may just need an MOT and off they go.
Now insurance...
I’d bet a Q plate too, it’s going to be hard to prove originality with a 6 year long build diary proving the original parts of the car are pretty much the roof and B and C-pillar (I think).
I’m not sure if they’re engine builders, I hope they do as I love watching engine builds, but really and obviously I’ll be proven very wrong, but once the body is back, there’s a vid or two of refreshing or replacing the drive-train and engine and the final build and it’s onto the ‘MG’.
Like a Human on Mars, I hope to see it finished in my lifetime.
