You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Righty, given the indignation around Sh*ll posting biggest profits has caused another uproar, couple of thoughts:
Are media and politicians are focused on their sense of convenient 'baddies', conveniently overlooking that this is global not UK profit, where similar companies may be paying 75% tax on profits in the UK but where that profit is based upon a market traded commodity - where the value can go down as well as up. Also conveniently overlooking that pension funds historically have been heavily invested in these blue-chip companies to provide growth for folks pensions.
Wonder what the last reported profits of all companies in the FTSE 100 have been and whether there is an even focus across all sectors...
Are media and politicians are focused on their sense of convenient ‘baddies’,
No, I think the media run propaganda for corporations and politicians do anything and everything they can too keep the gravy train rolling for the oligarchs. The windfall tax is to stop people turning against capitalism.
To be honest, both reports I've watched about Shell today have pointed out that most of the profits are generated abroad and taxed in other countries.
The huge profit does (rightly) highlight the massive inequalities in the country though, at a time of mounting hardship on a level not seen for a couple of generations at least.
The lines are so blurred between corruption, profiteering, dysfunctional government and normal business practice that *everything* begins to feel weighted against the "average" person.
What's also indisputable is that in the hardship already endured and the hardship to come, the top 5% of earners will actually profit from the coming carnage.
People are rightly and increasingly becoming furious about such inequalities.
The tragedy is that people are steered to vent their anger toward immigration etc rather than where it should really be targeted.
