My turn to use this hive of intellect to solve a problem!
I’ve got an circa 15 year old Siemens washing machine (SI12-14). The issue is that the wash cycle is now lasting for an hour or so longer than normal.
My thinking is that it’s down to the heating element not getting hot enough to trigger the cycle changes, but before I get the items, what are your thoughts if any...?
Heating elements either work or don't. If it's taking ages to warm the water maybe there's a lovely large layer of scale and/or filth insulating it. I'd try a couple of goes with a strong cleaner and descaler first.
As above regarding element
Could be taking ages because it is having trouble draining, check pump/filter and if fitted to sink drain check for fo-foos at the end of the hose.
If the problem is spinning, cloths will be wetter than usual, may have been 'out of balance' especially if you were washing bath mats or dog beds.
May also have spinning issue when the motor brushes are on their way out, given it's age
Thanks for the advice! Filter is clear...
Good tip about the scale, I’ll borrow a multimeter to double check the state of it also.
Cheers
