Never eaten there before, but there's one around the corner from this office. Their hot wraps are bloody lovely!
Mmmm...
Seriously, you've never eaten in a Pret before?
The BLT was nice, till I discovered how much salt they put in them.
I've never eaten in a Pret.
(have bought sandwiches and eaten them somewhere else though)(only when on training courses in London though)(there are none round here)(nice sandwiches btw)
The one on The Cut is a favourite haunt of mine for breakfast. The porridge and coffee is pretty good.
Still the best of all the bigger franchises IMO. Went downhill about 6-7 yrs ago before turning it round recently though.
Not as green/healthy as they'd like you to think though.
For some reason I instinctively avoid any packed sandwiches - I have images of disgruntled, poorly-paid employees going solo in the filling.
Best "chain" by far.
Previously 33% owned by MaccyD, now owned by the same private equity that bought Wiggle.

Like a kind of Russian Roulette? I'm sure they wouldn't have enough to fill all the sandwiches.
One of their cheese, ham, bacon, tomato croissants is a great way to make a hungover morning a little more bearable.
Pretty much the only thing I get from Pret. Sainsbo's meal deal wins the lunch race if I'm out for sarnies.
Best "chain" by far.
I'm quite partial to Eat personally. Lovely granola yoghurt things.
+1 for the Sains. meal deal.
Pret do nice stuff but pricey.
I'm quite partial to Eat personally.
I was addicted to the Eat Chicken Pot Pie soups when working in that London.
I met the founder, julian Metcalfe a couple of times when the company I worked for were supplying plastic bottles. We dubbed him 'Julian Hatstand' for he was alittle eccentric. However, he was evangelical about his desire to produce a good butty. His staff seemed quite happy, too.
All of their leftover food ends up being distributed to homeless charities and their general ethical stance seems rather good.
Pret any day over the other chains although prefer the small local places if possible
i like their soup.

Probably ok if you avoid anything with mayonnaise
I like the bread they use. Also, the swedish meatball wrap is very tasty.
Pret used to be really good. Then the bread % went up, filling quantity dropped. The clincher for me was when they made their wraps in half and 'hid' the gap in the middle with cardboard to make the wrap look longer and bigger than it was.

Yeah, Boots do that too.
<shakes fist>
They no longer sell All Day Breakfast sandwiches. 😡
A couple of the central London Pret used to give me free coffee when i worked in that there London, so they are ok by me.
I had one of my best mornings whilst sat outside Pret on Frith St, i was sat at a table outside watching Soho wake up on a sunny summers morning, i had an espresso & croissant to hand, and as i looked up the bright morning sun shined straight through a young girls blouse giving me xray vision of her breasts... FANTASTIC! The highlight of my career.

I don't think that I've ever seen a Pret a Manger before, never mind eaten in one..

Had one at Heathrow a little while ago. Most of that ended up in the bin.
For the most part, it's a decent balance between convenience and not tasting like crap

Sounds like ASDA's pizza topping trick.
Ooh, don't you get a lot of topping? ... Waaaait a minute...
... is the tacky sandwich shop where the allegedly fabulously wealthy Captain Flash has been known to eat his lunch...
I like them too. A nice Thai prawn baguette/crisps/coffee was less than £6 on Saturday. Yum
I know McD's sold out/got out of them but like all small businesses- once they embark on a mass expansion plan they seem to skip back on the food...
A soft Southern affliction, don't have them up here.
Careful. I'm not a Southerner. I'm a northerner, a Yorkshireman.
Not bad tasting but still junk food. Personally would rather go all-out and get a Subway!
Thing is with Subway you are looking at £4.70 for a footlong!

How far North are you ? They're in York, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen 🙂
True, I think that's better VFM than a pret sarnie though. I was gobsmacked when I saw the local (chain) pasty shop would only give you a few pence change out of a fiver for a "large traditional"
Free wifi makes them an invaluable working pitstop in that there London.
I miss local pubs serving real food made by them on the premises - used to work in Northallerton (North Yorkshire) and £5 would get me a pint and a real homemade steak pie (with real actual steak in it) with chips and peas.
(with real actual steak in it)
Real and actual? Must've been quite literally good. 😉

This explains why I found a mini bag of haribo in my New Yorker....
Thing is with Subway you are looking at £4.70 for a [s]footlong![/s] truly vile splodge of processed shite, stuffed into a bread like substance with more sugar in it than a Mars Bar
FTFY 😀
The highlight of my career.
A career in what - Oogling boobies??
DrP
coofee and porridge are good if I have a meeting in town otherwise 'its not as good as it used to be' TM
Went downhill about 6-7 yrs ago before turning it round recently though.
I used to eat from there now and again, but stopped enjoying their product, ooo, six or seven years ago. Not bought anything from them since.
There's a lesson, right there. For businesses, I mean.

And you have to put up with that smell ...
Not sure I fancy Pret's
Never been in Eat, have seen them around but can't say I've ever been in one.. Odd that.
I'm ok with Prets prices, quality of grub available etc. etc. it's a nice place to be and makes me feel good 😆
I quite like Eat. Has a reasonable selection for the voodoo vegenematarians amongst us.
I get lunch from either there or Eat pretty much every day. Pret coffee is better than most places too.
Could this be why I am skint?
MMMmmmm, subway
http://metro.co.uk/2009/03/11/subway-worker-who-stuffed-lettuce-up-his-nose-spared-jail-528240/
😆
DezB - too bloody right! With that smell that they pump out of the front door, I'm amazed anyone makes it into the place without barfing. I've smelt more appealing landfill sites
The last three wraps I have had came in paper and went all the way up to the ends.
I don't buy actual sandwiches, they are always full of mayonnaise, but I love wraps with interesting things in. And when they are hot - bloody fabulous. You don't even have to wait for them to be made either.
500 times better than subway. The bread I used to like but it slowly dawned on me how crappy and sugary it was, and the fillings are losing their appeal. The only thing for my tongue to look forward to at all is jalapenos and chili sauce.
Sainsburys meal deal for £3 is full of win
Mmmm love the roast chicken
Anywhere is OK as long as it sells diet coke.
Diet coke? Are you a fat woman? 😛
You'll get cancer. Best off being fat
Diet coke? Are you a fat woman?
Nah. It tastes nice with the Burger & large chips.
As mentioned above why do subways stink so ghastly? It's surely just baked bread and bakery's normally smell lovely. I went into a subway with a friend while he scoffed a meatball footlong that smell was on my coat for days. We need one of those pull along van things like in that London that sells hog roast and beef and potatoes.

+ 1 - I can't get enough of the mayo free chicken & chorizo...
Never as good as Ossie's was. 🙁

They're only in major cities, and then only one shop, like in Bath and Bristol. I often eat in Pret when up in That London, there's inevitably one nearby wherever you are in the city, the food is no more 'junk' food than anything else, unless all you eat is salad. It's only junk if you eat lots of it exclusively, and even then, a Rocket and Crayfish baguette is hardly the same as, say, a dodgy greaseburger and a can of coke analogue. The only thing that upsets me when I go there is that they no longer seem to do Vanilla Danish pastries. BASTARDS! I love those. 🙁
Their coffee is vastly superior to Starbucks, too.

I bought one to test this theory out despite having good free coffee in this office, but my mouth is still stinging from the frankly delicious jalapeno wrap so I'll have to let you know later 🙂

Bristol has two 😉
They're only in major cities,
Not quite. I was in the Horsham one the other day ... and that's just a town 🙂
Verdict - coffee is ok, somewhat nicer than Starbucks I'd say but it's still a fairly plain high streety thing. It's certainly cheaper than bucks though.
