Anyone got a pair they can recommend, or is it a case of contact lenses?
What I do:
1) Buy a pair of cheap sports sunglasses
2) Send them to Ciliary Blue (who seem to have changed their name) for reglazing with transitions lenses.
3) Wear new glasses for riding (day and night) and skiing
Easy peasy.
Depends upon how strong your prescription is. If its over 10 +/- then I can recommend a frame system, if its in the lower numbers then basically choose which pair you prefer from much choice.
Rad8 MTB Glasses are worth a look....prescription lenses with photochromic (transitions) and anti-fog coating.
Rightly or wrongly I've just been through this, I've never worn glasses before so with a bit of help from STW I ended up in SpecSavers for a 2-4-1 deal.
Spoke with the Sales Women who was really helpful, I picked out a pair of Puma Sunglasses (Sunnies have lighter, more durable frames I'm told) that she picked because of the shape of the arms, something I would have never thought of and the slightly greater distance between the top of the lenses and my head so it's less likely to steam up.
They were £90 I think, but my main pair were £150 so they were 'free'. I pick them up later today.
Speccies will do a Reactions lens and frame from £69, or titanium frame and Reactions for £125.
Not all cheap sports frames are glazable, and some are really shit quality.
I use photochromic lenses but if you go from open space to woods such asBPW they can be too dark especially in low light, as the light tint makes the woods really shadowy.
These have just come in so I’ll make some up and see what they’re like:

Could get a clear pair and the sunnies for £99 or pay £49 extra for Reactions.
Edit, you can then take your helmet in to check the fit.
Are reactions lenses up to it? I think like most people the first sunny ride of my riding 'career' I wore sunglasses, right up to the point I rode from the open into the woods and into the first tree I found.
Not to mentioned... I don't why, but they seem a bit Sex Pest to me.
Definitely not the Adidas ones that are designed to fall to bits on impact. Experience shows they don't require impact.
I've got Transition script lenses in some Oakley 5s which are decent. But they don't work in the car.
I see they have some new lenses now - xtractive which work / change while driving, and vantage which are variably polarised too. Anyone any experience of the new lenses? I'm due some new specs soon, I'd be quite tempted with the xtractive as I'm out in the Aussie sun seeing clients m-f.....Hmm
Cheap option: got to TK Max and buy some frames, pop the lenses out and get them glazed to your prescrition.
Expensive option: go to a good independent optician and get some proper sports glasses made with photochromic lenses and varifocal if you need that. They will cost mucho but will be worth every penny. Junaid at Ideal Eye Care in Blackburn is first class if you live up that way.
I recently bought some Salice sports glasses in specsavers with presecription inserts. Mine were a little more due to my weird prescription but they were circa £100. Good fit and use them due running as well as cycling as they stay out on my head r ally well.
P-jay, I agree regarding the sex pest Photochromic look.
If you really want to go mad, yellow lenses for low light wood rides, and a good anti reflective coating with hydrophobic layer helps the shit slide off.
Ive also got some sunnies with a graduated tint so it’s really dark at the top and a bit lighter (normal sunspec) in the middle and lighter still down lower for the Garmin, this is mainly for the road.
