Looking at picking one up with a few games for my lad (11) and I suppose I'll play a few driving games myself.
Assuming as long as the device boots and isn't locked out then once it's formatted and factory reset its essentially "new" just need to down load whatever updates?
He wants a 5 but they're like rocking horse poop still and I've seen some ps4 pro's with 10 games and a couple of pads for $400-500
Anything to look out for or be mindful of with pre loved PS4's??
You could buy from somewhere like CEX to get 12m warranty and peace of mind.
You further need to check the console isn't blocked on PSN.
Some bad lads get banned and it sticks with the unit forever. This means you can't play online stuff or get updates etc.
As mentioned, buying it somewhere reputable or seeing it logged onto PSN before reset is the best way
Check it’s not blocked in PSN. Fire a disc in and make sure it’s not too noisy - on some of them the fan sounds like a jet taking off.
Great console though - was up until 2 AM on nine last night 😬👍
You could register your interest in a PS5 via Playstation network. I did this when they came out and forgot all about it until i got an email about a year ago saying there was stock to buy direct and i could enter a lucky dip/draw where you get the chance to be one of the lucky few who are then be allowed to TRY and purchase one while the limited stocks last. i got lucky and got one.
Then two days ago i get another email from PS saying there's more in stock and they're now limited to 2 per person and it's a free for all so you'd think that means there's a higher number in stock and less limitations.
Yeah as others have said. PS5s are fairly easy to get hold of, you can get them direct from PlayStation, but Argos and the likes usually have them in too. Often it’s the bundles so a little bit extra.
Just got a PS4 Pro last week with 2 controllers and 10 good games for £290. Needed to take the cover off and clean the fan as it was very noisy. Sorted it right out. Great console.
A little harder getting 5s here in Aus but making sense about somewhere like CEX or EB to buy from. We do have EB here and pre owned 4s are a little more expensive than off of Marketplace but I guess there's the warranty issue.
I think wifey didn't appriate new 5s are close to a grand here (when you can find one) and the option of a 4 with games around the $400 mark pleased her more.
A PS4 Pro with a few games is a great console for an 11 year old, that said if you can stretch to a PS5 then def worth just checking stock at major retailers (and as others have said registering interest on PSN), there's regular stock drops these days.
I would also go with Cex for piece of mind. That said, depending on price a pro isn't really any better than a normal ps4 for the majority of games, so go with a standard one
So what does the pro bit mean then? Assumed it was slightly tweaked 4?
We don't have cex over here tho so it's EB or marketplace really
Ah! Forgot you were in Oz.
Pro has higher screen definition and faster processor.
More power? Will make me last longer than 10 seconds in CoD or complete a lap at nurburger-ring in GT? Hope so.
Pro it is then! Hehe

Buy a 5, tell her it's a special edition 4.

4k gaming (and video). Pretty pointless if you don't have a 4k TV! As Drac says, it's clocked higher also.
Some games have a Pro mode that can take advantage of the higher power and end up looking better.
I think she'll notice the price difference between a 4 and a 5....
I have gone PS3, PS4, PS5, but is there a reason for not considering an XBox? They appear to be a lot more easily obtainable. I think I’d go new XBox over 2nd-hand PlayStation. Others would know far better about which games are available on XBox.
I picked one of these up from CEX via eBay the other year.
Came in a plain box. Was clean and ready to go.
Difference over a regular PS4 as folks have described. Though the biggest difference is the menus are faster to respond. Overall, it is a bit snappier in UI responses. We have it plugged into an FHD TV fwiw so treating it just like a regular PS4.
Edit reason for getting this over a regular PS4 was that it was cheaper. Weird.
That is weird!
Annoyingly, missus went and bought a PS4 (non-pro) from EB and one of the docs at work has just said I could have has his 4 Pro as its just sitting gathering dust at home.
So he's bringing that in on Friday and I'll see if we can return or resell the 4 my wife bought.
Shopto have got stock, it’s the god of war edition but it’s in stock now.
Got a PS4 pro a month or so back. Excellent bit of kit once we'd cleaned all the dust out the back to get it running quietly. Playing Ghost of Tsushima with 4k TV and I find myself just standing admiring the view. Beautiful game and excellent winter escapism.
