[Closed] Pre CBT training necessary?

I did a taster session (1 hour) last week and really enjoyed it, did pulling away, stopping, riding around the car park and riding around the car park slowly. Instructor seemed really pleased and said be happy to have me do a CBT course. However, contacted another school (I'm moving around the country a lot at the moment so this is a school in another city) and they recommended doing an hour lesson before doing the CBT. Is this common? I was under the impression I could go from zero to completing CBT in a day, am I being overly optimistic?

The only difference in course is that the place I did the taster at is 9 until 6 whilst the other place is 10.30 until 4.30 for the CBT. No places available at the original place until 1st July sadly.

Thanks

Don't bother with the pre-session. Just do the CBT on it's own. The extra hour is just for them to make some money out of you. When I did my Direct Access the CBT was a doddle.
Getting the CBT is only the start though - imagine it as getting your provisional licence. You'll be learning for months/years....

Yeah that was my reaction hence posting. Contacted a third school in Wimbledon and they do 8.15 until 5.30 so think I'll do it with them. Revcounter replies bear out what you're saying too, cheers.

Exactly what I did. The "B" in CBT stands for "Basic" - it's whole raison d'etre is to show you how to operate a bike, make it go and stop and turn corners. The CBT takes as long as it takes, if you're spectacularly inept then you'll be invited back another day to complete the training and shouldn't be charged for that. I can't imagine what a pre-CBT lesson would cover, walking and breathing at the same time perhaps.

Sounds like a money-grubbing exercise to me, and I'd be actively avoiding any company that said it was necessary.

Go straight in for CBT, it's compulsory basic training, not a test. Sounds like they're trying to get more money out of you for not a lot IMO!

The extra hour won't do you any harm at all, and if it's a one-to-one you can ask any questions that you won't ask in a Group.

Although I'd have to admit I'm old enough that we just bought a bike, stuck 'L' plates on and rode off. 🙂
