My colleague has decided the office needs some seasonal cheer so has some Christmas tunes on. I have my headphones on listening to some heavy drum and bass* to drown it out. Bah humbug 😆

*dBridge's Boiler Room mix for anyone remotely interested 😉

I actually really like Silent Night. But that's about it.

I enjoyed the John Fahey version Tom Ravenscroft played over the weekend.

Anyway, we've got the Kindercore Records Christmas Sampler from years back playing in the office. So far no complaints.

I used to despise all the 'classic' Christmas tunes, now I love them like a grizzled old wart that just won't go away

Tesco have the noxious x**s noise wafting around. It's tha aural equivalent of the smell of raw sewage leaking from a broken drain. I got what I needed and left as quickly as I could. I don't know how much trade Tesco and their ilk lose as a result of pissing their customers off with the patronising noise, but it must add up to quite a sum.

I just walked into a shop to look for a pressie.
'Mistletoe & Wine' was seeping like some foul syrupy phlegm from the speakers, so I walked straight out.

My daughter's English teacher (it's a Spanish school) introduced her to the delights of Slade yesterday, so had to listen to her singing that to me - repeatedly - in the car last night.

I agree.
Not a patch on 'Carrie doesn't live here anymore' or 'Wired for sound'.

Whenever I hear White Wine in the Sun I always manage to get some dust in my eye. now idea how that happens..

This is probably my favourite Chrimbo song -

Complete with a certain well known R6Music DJ on vocals.

Radio 4, then...
At least most of the Chrimbo songs on 6 are decent ones, the girls in the response room next door have got a radio hanging against the steel dividing wall, and they got some shitty commercial station on, which is playing all the very worst Christmas songs, all the time. I've got my little Pure DAB radio turned up almost to distortion point to drown out the crappy noise.
RadMac played Karine Polwart's version of Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody, and it was lovely, never heard it before. Not heard Fairytale Of New York, yet, sadly.

If I have to listen to that awful excuse of a record from Leona Lewis one more time... It's what I hate about commercial radio stations, they play absolute rubbish from 'big' names because they're paid to, not because it's any good.

I actually enjoy most of the good Christmas songs, especially the older ones. But Leona needs shooting for that one. Hopeless 👿

I've often wondered if the Darkness' "Don't let the bells end" was a euphemism, but it seems it's treated as a "serious" Christmas song.

I am waiting for the first shop worker, subjected to a never ending loop of the same Christmas songs who finally snaps and goes batshit mental.

I would be tempted to take them to the European Court of Human Rights claiming it is torture and therefore illegal.

Hell the US Army uses it as such so it isn't too much of a jump.

Guardian article on US Music torture

Oh I don't really like Christmas musak much.

When I worked for Halfords as a deputy manager many moons ago I actually received a proper verbal warning from my area manager when the. Christmas music CD got mysteriously and irretrievably damaged one year.
I had been moaning about how much I hated it though, I think one of the middle aged divorcee cashiers grassed me up, the younger staff were happy I'd done it. I mean, weeks of constant looping Christmas songs for hours a day is enough to drive you mental....
