I'm very tempted to pick up a nice looking garden dining set which is on offer, its listed as powder coated so I would assume left outside but under a cover/tarp it would be fine.
But, there are a handful of reviews from people saying they do that and have uploaded pics of rust in many places on the set.
If I was too gamble on picking up the set, could I after initial assembly add some extra protection from it? something like a sealer or lacquer? Ideally I wouldn't want to sand the powdercoat back and apply some anti rust paint.
If it the different sections screw together you could try some ACF50 on the fasteners and threads, might help corrosion forming on bare bit and working under the powder cost.
Not too expensive to get it blasted and recoated every few years.
I think a lot depends on how well the powder coating was done.
There's probably a reason the sets on sale and I kinda think it might be linked to this, but circa half a dozen bad reviews out of 50 or so isnt too bad.

I've oulled the trigger on the set so will order some of this and see how I get on. Think I'll treat it like my bike too, give it some washes now and again with a mild detergent and let it air out during the winter on dry days.
a regular (say every 6 months) coating of acf50 or similar should help prolong its life.
Aluminium garden set is a rust proof alternative = I don’t cover mine in winter and simply give a warm soap scrub in spring to remove surface algae
With the state of the economy, you may well find a set you like currently on sale
(my second hand aluminium ladder has been used and left out uncovered in the garden 10+ years and no rust)
