Seems a bit rich for Saudi Arabia to be pointing fingers at Qatar's alleged ties to Islamist groups. When they themselves export such a rigid strain of Islam and support radical schools and mosques around the world.

It is exactly why they are doing it, divert the attention away to minor players.

I am not sure I'd describe Qatar as a minor player.

Agreed OP - Sunni v Shia issues here and certainly not a good guy vs bad scenario

Qatar's a minor player???! - allegedly of course! They were the only country in the world to have a formal embassy for the Taliban (so basically Al-Qaeda) in Doha at one point.

Saudi and Qatar are the difference between UKIP and the EDL. One is at least making an effort to conceal its extremism, even if it is patently obvious to the onlooker.

At least it should ensure that the Qatari world cup is one of the safest going. Don't bite the hand etc...

It all started going wrong after the release of their fifth album 'All I ever need is you' in 1971.

When they 'cut ties' they don't mess about do they? I was thinking, lock the doors at the embassy, rattle a sabre or two, sense will prevail. Nope, they've effectively deported every Qatari and closed their air space.

My reading is that Trump went to the middle East and effectively legitimised the Sunni nations persecution if the Shia. Think of it like Protestants v Catholics in Northern Ireland during the troubles.

Bound to end well.

hardly that situation considering that both countries are predominantly Sunni muslim...but you're right that its not a good guy vs bad guy scenario

they are doing it, divert the attention away

just like the world is getting wise to the actions of other oppressive and illegal governments in the region...the same is happening to the Saudis...this is a panic move to divert attention away from the fact that they are snapping up weapons form the UK and somehow some of those are finding their way into the wrong hands.
everyone knows that they are along with a few more countries, the key players behind this reign of terror that is sweeping across human society

Trumps claiming it as an achievement of his Saudi trip 😯

fool is getting himself tangled up in a sunni-shia oil dictatorship regional pissing match

what does this mean for the World Cup?
Qatar is a big investor in the UK, May was banking on a 5bn Qatari sovereign wealth fund investment in the UK as a Brexit cushion

will we be seeing that government saudi report that we were promised by the Tories?

The tip of the iceberg kimbers, symbiotic relationship - oil for weapons. Even if it is released what then, can't see the powers that currently be have the guts to stand up and take responsibility for their actions.

The plot thickens.

Trump with his indiscreet tweeting will have landed himself right in it.

And you think he actually gives a shit?
The man is pathologically incapable of giving any consideration to the possible consequences of anything he says or tweets!
