I am looking at selling a vintage GT mob and am looking at the best way to post it?
Ask your LBS for an old box.
Parcelforce are probably your best bet, as it will be oversize for most couriers.
Try getting quotes from parcel2go to check.
Go to your LBS, get them to give you a bike shipping box and the associated packaging and show you what a packaged bike looks like. Some shops will offer a packing service for a fee. Weight and measure dimensions of box and bash numbers into a shipping price calculator eg Parcelforce, plus you’ll need insurance for the replacement value.
Yep get the box from the LBS. They'll be happy to get rid of it for free. I used Paisley Freight when I sent a bike a couple of months back. No complaints.
+1 to Paisley Freight - I've used them plenty of times before, and booked one in with them today to collect a bike from me.
Halfords have always been decent at allowing me to take cardboard bike boxes off their hands. Just be wary of the max box size permitted by many couriers - even Paisley Freight with their 'bike' service restricts you: "The length of your final packaged box should not exceed 1.6m with the sum of the width and height not exceeding 1.2m (i.e. when you add the width and height together they should not be more than 120cm)"Â Â - I only just got a small 26" wheeled bike in that with the front wheel off, anything bigger will require both wheels off.
Another +1 for Paisley Freight though depending on size Parcelforce can sometimes beat them.
parcel force.
