You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
A genuine question for the posties on here.
A year or two ago our RM office was caught scanning parcels as “delivered” at the sorting office before it had reached the house to enhance their performance criteria. I believe since then software changes - GPS? - has changed that.
So now I’ve noticed another pattern. Parcels nor letters NEVER come on time which is a general and currently investigated underperformance trend of Royal Mail overall as I’m sure you are aware. But with us, the new trend is that tracking never shows a parcel beyond “North Counties MC” before it’s delivered, so you can’t see it arrive locally, out for delivery etc. Of course, you used to see the whole journey.
Now, I’m suspicious that our local office is massaging its figures again by not recording arriving parcels, so as not to highlight the delay from there to the house owner. Or has there been a changing in the tracking?
Same issues at my local office - so id say that the issues are probably down to an understaffed office rather than something dodgy.
On the postie grapevine my local office has had 6 voluntary redundancies and 5 other posties leave (11 total) since February - apparently RM management want to reduce numbers by a further 8 people in the office by August this year. All our local posties are over worked, all that come in my shop are now vocally unhappy with workloads/pay/management, most have told me they are looking for work elsewhere.
Unfortunately when strikes last this long, the service will get worse and worse.
As above. Our local office is understaffed, over worked and often has to pay posties overtime to cover rounds, yet they have just opened up another round of voluntary redundancies. Our postie is a lovely chap, really looks out for the community (he also lives in the village). He has jumped at the opportunity of redundancy and I don't blame him.
It's not a scam that I am aware of and I'm surprised to hear this is happening. We get it drummed into us that tracked items need to have all the required scans or the sender can claim money back. Of course, that could all be management BS to try to improve their performance figures. Having said all that nothing would surprise me with RM at the moment.
Thanks for the feedback. One bitten etc.
I’m waiting for a 48hr item sent last Tuesday. It was scheduled for Thursday and I changed it to Friday as we were away.
Still not arrived. And traditionally it’s always 3-4 days anyway regardless of what the sender pays for.
Something is definitely up at RM. Lots of delays and stalled tracking for us. 24hr and 48hr tracked need to be renamed and even special delivery doesn't get there next day anymore.
@Kryton57 To be honest I don't really know what happens in the bigger offices although I've heard some horror stories about posties going on leave for a week, coming back and finding their round had been left all week so anything could be happening depending how short of manpower they are.
Ours is a fairly small office of 12 rounds. If someone goes sick and we can't get cover in then that round will likely get left in for the day but between us we will always get that rounds tracked packets delivered.
