Open Country on Radio 4 is good for the odd gem if you've a spare half hour. This week they look at postal paths and corpse roads, topics that have been discussed in this esteemed organ before now and are always worth revisiting. All on Sounds.

Did' The Bealach'yesterday (Pass of the Cattle) in glorious sunshine.

I was thinking about how old the route was as I gurned my way to the top. 👍 😃

I spent 7 years working on Foulness Island, it's certainly a different place, working with explosives was fine but I'd not have trusted those mudflats for a minute

Robert MacFarlaine writes about that in one of his books, it’s not a walk I’d fancy doing without checking the weather repeatedly for a couple of days before hand. The thought that nobody really knows how many people have likely died using it is sobering.
