Having recently done this I'm really struggling to settle back down to the daily grind. I'm really bloody bored all the time, as are the other guys I did it with.

Has anyone else experienced the same thing? It's not like normal post holiday blues.

What did you do to shift your mind back to the mundane?

Cheers.

You did LeJog? You sure? I imagine something like that would have some sort of write up, or even the odd picture to document it?

How strange.

Pah, you weren't around.

Anyway, I'm flipping bored. Climbing the walls, mind numbingly bored.

Congratulations on the epic ride!!! It was certainly a life affirming experience for me too!

I did two big adventures last year (LEJOG and 3 months of travelling in Asia/China). I got over the comedown by doing a blurb book for both. It was a most therapeutic thing to do, and means that I've got something to look back on with a smile in years to come!

Cheers Mingsta.

Molly... already got some stuff in the pipeline. Right now it doesn't seem to be helping. How much are you think the TD12 will end up costing... I heard £4k?

Costs nothing afaik apart from your own spend, which is up to you.

I've already got some of the kit. Other than that it's transport and time off work.

Yeh, been there, 6 months as a ski bum gave me the blues for about 6 months afterwards - but don't worry before long reality bites and you find yourself just doing mundane things again and accepting thats what life generally is.... mind you I still bore people about LeJog 12 years after I did & plan to do it again sometime.

Totally normal after a big trip/adventure. I guess the other two have forgotten their aches and pains enough to join you in being bored 🙂

already got some stuff in the pipeline. Right now it doesn't seem to be helping

You can take over the organisation from me if it'll help a bit? 🙂

Nah it's ok - I was hoping that's why you hadn't invited me 🙂

Hopefully we'll get to find out what it is though?

Jamie... how's the road riding going?

It's going ok I guess....well a week last Wednesday I was out for a 90mile ride when my knee started feeling like it was being drilled into round about mile 60. Last 30 miles were not fun. I think doing squats the day before, badminton the day before that, 10k run the day before that and 55miles on the bike the day before that was the culprit as ever since I did a half marathon a couple of years ago my right knee has been a bit temperamental. Fine usually, just have to give it rest. Problem is I get carried away sometimes.

Anyway. Since then just been doing 20/30milers and my usual weight training with a little bit of barefoot running training thrown in. Hopefully be back up to big distances soon.

Do you fancy a little challenge in June?

Depends when in June, as in Peaks at some point to run/walk around Kinder Scout.

...oh and as it is me, injuries permitting 🙁

Edit: I should add I may be doing a certain 'i' prefixed gentleman's diet at the moment, so the bigger rides had to get chopped for a little bit anyways, otherwise I would be weak as a kitten 24/7. Not a major prob as all the extra protein is ideal for pumping dem gunz.

Sharp pain under the kneecap when flexing/riding, but you can still hold your weight on it no problem?

Sounds very familiar to me - I might know what it is.

Molly - what about a sharp pain at the top of the knee cap?? Otherwise familiar with all the other symptoms?
You were top of the invite list BTW! I've already mentioned to you..

The two sportives in Wales on the 9th/10th July and Afan Monster, plus the Cwm Carn lap challange.

Jamie - probably the 11th? Is your e-mail in your profile?

It's 50/50 to be honest.

No, but Phil has it I think.

Oh right, didn't realise that's what you were talking about 🙂 I thought you said it was bigger than LEJOG!

I used to get this knee pain after doing too much when not quite in condition for it. I came to the conclusion that it was patello-femoral syndrome, which is when your kneecap drags over the end of your femur in the wrong place (it's meant to run in a groove specially designed for the purpose). Caused by muscle mis-alignment I think. Damages the bone which is why it feels the way it does.

Haven't had it for years now because I'm more consistent with my riding.

Oh yeah we're doing SITS as well 🙂

I'll need to do a roll call / e-mail those who said they were up for it...

Rootes - surely you're finding it worse now though?

When I did a two week off road adventure, I managed the comedown much as Mingsta mentioned, by writing about it, although I spun the write ups over several posts on here instead of just the one (for maximum ego-fluffing 8) )

Planning new ones helps, or just marvel at how much more you are eating as your body re-stocks.

Start planning & humming and hawing about what new kit to buy 🙂

I'm hoping a friends FB post about a 2000mile tour in Oct/Nov was serious!

Indeed you will. It started out a wee idea just for me to do as fun*, but has grown a little since then.

I thought you said it was bigger than LEJOG!
They can't really be compared at all 🙂 Now hush, its a secret until its been planned properly!

@ jamie, all the cool people are doing it - be there or be square 😛

*yes i have a warped sense of fun!

Camino de Santiago?

That is a bit weird you mentioning that. Was reading about it earlier, and while I would not be doing it for any religious reasons, it looks a pretty epic thing to do.

My interest was sparked by this.

He's serious! 🙂 - London to Istanbul in November!

If you don't fancy dodging pilgrims all day i did the Camino Natural del Ebro (GR99) last year and it was fantastic. Took about 14days riding although you could take it slower and enjoy more Rioja! Maps and guide book (only available in Spanish) available from Stanfords

It's not just a religious thing, I know plenty of people who've done and trust me they're not religious. You're not going to be converted on the way either, unless you want to.
I had the opportunity to do it from Roncesvalles a few years ago but work got in the way. One day I will.
GR99 looks interesting too, on the Spanish side, the sun shines so more fun, there's also the Via de Plata or Ruta Quijote.
Maybe we can get an international ride going and iDave can come for a barefoot Zola Budd style run too.

That's prety much what I did except it was; ferry to Santander (a slight cheat with a train to Reinosa) then all the way to the Med on the trail. Met lovely people, even though I barely had a word of Spanish, drank some lovely wine and ate loads 🙂 Then flew home after a couple of days in Barca to chill/party.

Can bore you with a slide show in June if you like 😆

Can be done relatively cheaply too - Don Simon will do you a litre of drinkable vino tinto for 1 euro, or you can splash out and spend 3 on a bottle something nice! - Mogrim and don simon may disagree with my definition of 'drinkable' and 'nice' 🙂
