Do you still need to run the battery down low a couple of times with a new phone these days? Seem to remember that helped the battery "settle in", or whatever the technical term is!

You can damage li-ion batteries if they're deep-discharged, so you shouldn't store them flat for this reason. Heat can shorten their life too, so don't leave it in the window on a sunny day.
Other than that, don't worry about it.
