Hi, can anyone recommend some nice areas to stay in Portugal with some nice quiet hilly road rides? coastal preferably not to busy with plenty of restaurants. Thanks.
The SW (west of Lagos) in the Algarve is excellent for road riding. We're going there in June for a week to do just that.
A good mix of empty tarmaced roads and gravel tracks, all rideable on a road bike.
NB Does get very hot in July / August eg 40C+, which is like cycling into a hair dryer. June / September are a bit cooler (and quieter).
We stay in Praia de Luz (where Madeleine McCann went missing).
The area we've ridden most goes in a rough square from Praia de Luz, North to Monchique, West to Aljezur, South to Sagres. Beautiful scenery, quiet roads, lots of places to stop (bars, cafes), loads of quiet beaches / coves a few hills, some lakes and one mountain (only 900m).
