Daughter has to suffer 2 x 12hr coach trips and could do with a portable phone/iPad charger.
Plenty available but what size should I be going for?

biggest capacity you can afford really i have a 10400 mah one and that will charge an ipad air to about 85% full and get one with a 2amp output or it will take an age to charge an ipad,

as above, biggest you can would be my advice, but of course what you require could be different! Assuming size / weight not important, then I highly recommend these:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/EC-Technology%C2%AE-22400mAh-Capacity-Flashlight/dp/B00F5Q4F0U

It will charge a 10" tablet a few times over, and a phone several times over. It has 3 USB ports - 1, 2 and 2.4A. Handily it recharges via a micros USB socket so a standard phone/tablet cable does the job.

If it's just emergency power you need to get you going again, then get the smallest you can find!

I have one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tonbux-12000mAh-External-Pocket-Size-Blackberry-White/dp/B00SUS658K/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1427130490&sr=1-2&keywords=tonbux+charger

Does the job - will do about four full mobile charges.

Will be taking mine to Glastonbury....

The stuff from Anker works really well with low internal loss.

Second the Anker chargers, very good, reliable quality. Don't use mine as much now, partly because the battery on my iP6 will go an entire day streaming 6Music, and partly because I'm not allowed to use my phone at work any more. 😐
It'll come in handy at the IoW Festival in June, though. 😀

Another vote for the Anker ones tried several over the years but now own four Anker models of various capacity for trips without power.

Also if the coach journeys are via national express take a charger anyway as some of there coaches have power points.

4th'd Anker - their stuff seems to be well designed.

This is what I got for charging a tablet - might be overkill, it weighs 450 grams.

another for Anker...i've got two of their chargers and a load of their other stuff...they are a pretty refreshing accessory company actually, considering that the market seems consist mainly of horribly cheap or stupidly overpriced stuff. All their stuff if of good quality and it's pretty cheap.

+1 for Anker ....... Good kit. I've had several ebay cheapies that were rubbish or didn't last. Found it cheaper on Amazon at the time

I'd say be careful. There's tons of cheapo knock off garbage out there when it comes to batteries, so get one with a good rep. The ONLY recognisable brand with a good rep I could find was Anker.

i have a 10400 mah one and that will charge an ipad air to about 85% full

That doesn't sound right. No way does an iPad air have a 10Ah battery in it... does it?

Thanks for the suggestions all. Bought a 5200mAh Anker - just delivered and I'm impressed by the solidity (is this a word?) and quality.
Daughter will be happy as she'll be using it tomorrow!
