Have seen the large bulky ones of these in the past but these newer ones look quite small
Anyone any experience?

We've got one. It's been great for keeping the phones charged when camping. No idea if the jump start bit works as we've not needed it yet. Hopefully it does and it's better than nothing. Maybe using this to keep the phones charged means we are less likely to need a jump start so win-win
We have keyless ignition on our car and, if we leave the car and forget to turn the transmission right off, the battery drains so i got this...

I was sceptical but have used it to restart a almost flat battery and it worked! Small enough to fit in glove box too + handy for charging smartphone
Halfords do one for £40 that is just under 400a cranking power, its the old style lead acid type but its fired up my cold dead 2.4 Transit a few times. Well worth it considering how sceptical I was.
I've looked at those starter packs, after my car battery died on its ass while on holiday a year or so ago, and the AA bloke started it with something similar.
It says up to 2.5 ltr petrol, but nothing about diesel engines, of which there are quite a few about, including mine.
That amazon one says not suitable for diesel
I've a 2 litre diesel
This one is up to 3 litre diesel
Doesn't ship to Northern Ireland unfortunately
I've got the Halfords £40 SLA one, which granted is big and heavy but would work with your car. Just lives in the boot instead of the glove box! It's got 12V outputs too.
If extrapolating from this graph is valid, discharging at C = 35 or so looks like it might have a detrimental affect on long-term life (assuming that charge and discharge rates affect life equally).
I've had good use out of a couple of the lead-acid ones. Never tried a lithium one but people having used them to start cars were rare in the Amazon reviews, so nuke's experience is positive.
I had an oldschool jumpstart pack, it was basically just a motorbike battery with jumpleads on, in a box (which was about 3 times bigger than it had to be). It died so I stuck the jumpleads on an old battery I took out of the car, it's not the healthiest of batteries but as long as I charge it from time to time it does the job. You could obviously do the same just by having a spare battery and jumpers.
I know people have had good results with the tiny ones but it makes my head spin... Cranking current can overheat normal jumpleads, those little leads should be way overstressed at 300A.
I've got the Halfords £40 SLA one
Do they still do these in Halfords as I can't find them on their website ?
Got a Chinese one, it's absolutely brilliant.
You do know that the CE mark on that stands for Chinese Explosives don't you?Got a Chinese one, it's absolutely brilliant.
You leave the lithium ones connected for a few minutes till a telltale extinguishes, to balance the cars lead acid, hence the puny Crocodile and leads shouldn't see full cranking current.
Yeah, they work
Halfords have 15% off all workshop till Wednesday which takes the budget jump pack down to £34
Guessing BC will take another 10% off that as well
