Space scientists reveal brightest gamma explosion ever

Gamma ray bursts are the most violent explosions in the universe, releasing more energy than the Sun would in 10 billion years.

The gamma-ray burst (GRB) occurred two billion lightyears from Earth and illuminated much of the galaxy.

"Illuminated much of the galaxy". Wow. There's big bangs and there's big bangs. I'm glad I wasn't near this one a few billion years back.

Can’t say I heard anything but that’s insanely impressive.

Well, there wouldn’t have been any grandkids to tell about it…

There was a lot of talk not so long ago about Betelgeuse doing strange things, like possibly entering the late stages of a supernova, (which turned out to be a dust cloud dimming the star), but if Betelgeuse was much closer to us, the blast wave could destroy our solar system. It’s 640 light years away but it would need to be 50ly or closer to cause harm - there are no stars big enough close enough for anything to happen.

However, a Gamma Ray Burst, who knows? Nobody knows what they are, or how they happen. 🤷🏼

Did no one else see the title and the author and think there was going to be an excessive pumping disaster within?
