You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
One of our little lady cats (4 year old) got hit by a car on Easter Sunday; we found Her cowering in a neighbour's shed, bleeding.
She spent a few days in a veterinarian hospital where it transpired that She'd fractured Her pelvis in two places. The pelvic floor fracture wasn't deemed to be too worrying but it had also fractured where it joins the spine, so was now misaligned. She ended up having an orthopaedic operation to screw the pelvis back into place.
We got Her home yesterday evening where She had a bit of a panic in the cage (She's to be cage rested for 6 weeks) and with the cone collar (which She managed to rip off by hooking it somewhere on the cage).
Today She's been totally lethargic and hasn't eaten or drunk (She hasn't eaten since Sunday). She's booked in to see our vet tomorrow and it could simply be that She's in a lot of pain coming off of the heavyweight injected painkillers to oral ones, but I'm getting very worried.
On the positive side, despite what must have been a fairly solid impact there's no sign of internal/organ damage, plus She's had a very tiny poo and several wees - joyous news as one of the fears was severe nerve damage to the anal/genital areas (which weren't showing much response in hospital) and may well have meant game over if She could no longer pass faeces and urine.
We've got everything crossed but any tales of feline resilience (they didn't earn the nine lives moniker without reason) would be gratefully appreciated!
Poor thing :0( hope she recovers well. One of mine got run over and killed 6 months ago, I’m still not over it
We lost a ragdoll 4 years ago - hit by a car. MrsF has gone slightly cat mad since, we got a rescue soon after and that's been joined by 3 more ragdolls related to the original one !
Peeing and pooping is a good sign.
Today She’s been totally lethargic and hasn’t eaten or drunk
We had a cat who wouldn't eat after surgery to remove an Intussusception, so the vet fitted an esophageal feeding tube and we had to feed him by syringe every 4 hours for a few weeks! Bit of a PITA and he kept running off mid feed which meant the syringe firing liquified cat food all over the place as his tube disconnected.
But, he made it and is now happy as Larry!

Vet was quite impressed, we managed to get him to put back on 0.5 kg via tube feeding, apparently most owners just manage to maintain weight. Bertie was very unimpressed with being pinned down and fed every few hours.....
A work colleague of mine specialises in broken cats. He has seven cats all with limbs/eyes/ears missing. The cats all have the best life with loads of love to share.
I hope your little cat is on the mend soon
EDIT: the cats were all injured before my colleague looked after them! 😻
Hopefully this is just a quiet phase as she recovers from the surgery, drugs, etc. I'm sure the vet will be able to do something to encoutrage her to eat and drink tomorrow.
Our female Bengal/Ragdoll cross was run over just one day before her 5th birthday. That was almost 6 years ago and I still find it painful to think about; moreso than relatives I've lost!
Her brother is doing fine, although he was quite poorly a few months ago and I feared we were going to lose him. It's a horrible time when one of your pets isn't well. Best of luck.
We have a rescue rag doll who showed similar signs of lethargy a couple of years ago and lost a lot of weight. Several blood tests later he perked up again, and has been fine since. Maybe he was just testing us out to see who held all the power 😉. He's been to the vets again today for blood tests, as he's losing weight again. This time we think he's in the early stages of kidney problems (he's getting old) - we'll know more once the results are back.
Edit: when Jackson was initially ill he responded well to tuna (but not too much). But he did need a drip to keep him going whilst in the vets. If he'd not responded well at home he'd have been back to the vets after a couple of days (cats develop ketosis quite quickly if they don't eat).
Fingers crossed.
I had one that was similar after being hit by a car. 8 weeks cage rest. Healed up fine but the cat hated me afterwards due to the cage. It then moved out to next door.
Hope yours deals with the cage better.
One of ours had a leg amputated after a mystery injury which got progressively worse over a month. He was in a big cage with a cone looking very miserable for a while. It was rather stressful, trying to treat his massive open wound. Thankfully after getting used to life on three legs he was soon back to himself. Hope yours recovers 🤞

We have a tripod cat also.

Today she's fine, but recuperation took months. They're resilient little buggers physically, it's the innards that generally does for cats.
Get well soon, kitty.
One of mine got run over and killed 6 months ago, I’m still not over it
My old girl had to be put to sleep twenty years ago and I'm still not over it. Furry little heartbreaking bastards.
Thanks for the good wishes and sorry to those who have lost cats (we lost our Old Girl, who was nearly 20, some years back; it's tough).
We had a major panic last night as in addition to the lethargy She started weeing bloody urine although possibly not as bad as we fears as the vet thinks it's most likely to be stress induced cystitis and wasn't too worried. She's had a shot of anti-biotics and some more of the heavyweight, injected pain killers She was on in hospital and now She's meowing sadly and trying to fight Her way out of the cage. We're going to have to battle Her with the cone of shame soon too as She gets more active.
She's had a few bites to eat but is really struggling on Her back legs.
My cat was hit by a car In January last year. He had gone missing one day, but somehow managed to find his way back home in the early hours of the morning in minus temperatures. After taking hum to the emergency vet we found he had a fractured sternum, broken pelvis in 2 places and his rear leg was basically degloved. He spent some time in the Vet hospital and they put some pins in the hip, they had to remove a small bit of bone form the leg to full in a gap left in the hip.
When he first came home it was pretty stressful, as like yours, he wouldn't eat or drink and went really lethargic. He also hated being in the cage.
He also had to go back to the vets every other day for antibiotics and bandage changes as he has some really serious infections.
We resorted to feeding him with a syringe in the mouth. I boiled some chicken then blended it down to a watery paste. After a day or so of this he started perking back up and taking food we put near him and later started eating again properly.
With his stress in the cage we found putting a blanket over it so he could hide kept him calmer though as her recovered (8 weeks in the cage) he started getting more and more stressed so the vets prescribed a mild sedative which helped a bit.
A year and a half, nearly, on and you wouldn't guess he'd ever been hurt apart some a few bald patches on his legs where the scars are.
Hope she recovers well
As a felllow cat parent - I send you my best wishes for a full and stress-free recovery from now on.
All the best to you and your cat. Mine has recently recovered from a mystery illness after spending a couple of weeks apparently at death's door. Hope yours pulls through as well.
Any update Pjay? How’s the wee lady doing?
Thanks for asking, that's really kind.
Things are looking up as She's started eating and drinking which is a huge relief. She's weeing and pooing a little too which suggests that the feared nerve damage might not be an issue (I don't think that there would have been much hope if this had been the case).
She is still passing some blood with Her wee, but apparently this isn't a huge deal in a female cat (although we panicked).
She's still a rather lethargic, but She's been through a lot and is on quite high levels of pain killers. Obviously She's not keen on being locked in a small cage (She's very much an outdoors creature and another 6 weeks of this is going to be hard).
Today She suffered the indignity of the cone of shame (She's started showing an interest in Her stitches) and She's not good on the back legs, but with 2 fractures of the pelvis I don't suppose that's a surprise.
My Wife and I are absolute wrecks and very concerned about leaving Her alone but we can't watch over Her for 6 weeks 24/7.
All in all though, things seem much better than we feared (we weren't sure She was going to make it) 👍
Good news.
Female cats can got a bit of blood in urine, cistitis fairly common - worried us a bit with the youngest ragdoll but she was OK after a few days.
Nice update PJay, glad things are looking up.
Last year my nephew's cat was hit by a car, she had very serious injuries, one of her legs had to be amputated and then she got a serious infection, it really was touch-and-go whether she would survive and they were fully prepared for the worse. Today it's hard to imagine a happier and healthier cat. She couldn't give a monkeys about having only 3 legs!
I've also had a cat hit by a car many years ago, she had a pin put in for her fracture (also had smashed teeth and internal bleeding) my abiding memory was her howling in pain when she got home, it did my head in and I felt so helpless. She made a complete recovery and it was astonishingly quick.
I'm sure that now yours has shown the positive signs of recovery you will be surprised how quickly she will fully recover. Cats are remarkable in many ways including how quickly they can mend!
Good to hear she's doing better!
Here's to a fast recovery.
It's heartbreaking when a pet gets run over. Our gorgeous cat was killed and left in the gutter (she looked so peaceful). Just horrid to see.
Your's will get stronger day by day and you are giving her all the right attention and care.
Oh bless.
Thanks for the update. Paws crossed.
That’s put a smile on my face today, glad to hear she’s doing well
Sorry everyone, I should have kept this thread more up to date.
Luna's done Her cage time and has been going out for a couple of weeks (She was meant to stay inside for a month after being freed from cage rest, but we let Her out after 2 weeks as She was getting so upset).
She's doing really well and Her bald bits are now a bit fluffier. We just have to hope that She doesn't fall out with anymore cars!
I'd assumed that the screw for Her hip would be a tiny affair but it turns out to be quite a sizeable piece of metalwork!

That's at least 4 lives right there! Good to hear that she's doing really well.
Many years ago I had a cat involved in a serious RTA, I heard the car hit her and the piercing scream she let out. She had a fractured leg/hip which needed a pin, internal bleeding, smashed teeth, and bizarrely was left slightly crosseyed. She made a full recovery although in her later years she had arthritis associated to the injuries caused by the accident and developed a very slight limp.
All the best. One of ours got hit by a car around 4 years ago, broken pelvis it was touch and go wether he'd have to be put down as he didn't go to the loo for afew days. He died aged 7 from an unrelated seizure last week, wifes heartbroken and I'm gutted too loved that little sod. His brother keeps wondering were he is 🙁
RIP Eric

Really sorry to hear about Eric Pete, I've lost a few during my time and each has been special and a huge loss. I'll be thinking of you.
RIP Eric, we lost a 1 year old Ragdoll to a car - would never stay in unfortunately. Our current 3 ragdolls are indoor cats with a large cat run outside - even the rescue is a house cat as he's got cat flu.
Sorry to hear of Erics loss.
Glad to hear your cat is on the mend P-Jay.
RIP Eric, your oomans miss you
