Moved to a new area with poor terrestrial tv signal - on a hill with taller properties and trees around. I’m told the town uses a relay transmitter so reduced number of channels. Result is very poor reception.
I don’t watch much tv, but mrs likes cookery and property programs and in winter it’s good to have. I don’t want to pay a subscription, because I’m a yorkshire man. Also have BT broadband so need an ariel for their pay tv pack.
I hear Humax have stopped making boxes for free sat, not sure if that is important?
What options do I have? I’m investigating free sat but would prefer mo dish, but accept might have to have one. Anything else to consider? I’m a total tech numpty and know nothing about this or TVs. Thanks.

We're in a similar boat in that we can't get an aerial signal.

Perfectly happy with sky dish and box on their £150 "pay once, watch forever" deal.

Now have a smart TV so just plug straight into the dish. (And a couple of subscription channels).

If you plug in a fire tv stick or similar device, it's free to get iplayer, ITV player and the channel 4/5 players too. Most (all?) of them have live streaming, plus pretty much all the content is available on demand.

There’s new freesat boxes out now (recording and not) since the Humax deal expired. Does mean a dish though.

Or just stream if you have ok internet. We just use live aerial TV for CBeebies for the kids, anything we watch is from iPlayer/all4/etc. Was planning to get a freesat recorder once they came out but not really missing that with all the catchup services.

What @5lab said. If you have broadband just get a firestick (often on offer at £20). Then get the apps for the channels you need.

As usual, you will still need a TV license.

We went down the dish and Freesat route. Second hand Humax recorder from Gumtree. Job done.

Dish replaced a 20m aerial cable up the garden and a huuuuge aerial mounted on a 12' pole at the shed, which still was pointing straight at the mansion and trees behind us. The dish now points at open sky and is tucked under our eaves, so less obvious.

They are? Damn, I just bought a Firestick 4K and it was a lot more than 20 quid!
Where might these offers appear?

Take a look at uk.camelcamelcamel.com

4K was £29.99 in Nov.
Normal one was £19.99 in June.

Have you checked http://www.wolfbane.net/cgi-bin/txpath.exe to see if you can get signal from the main transmitter?
