Right,

I have basic BT Broadband. Just run a test and speed have reduced to 0.1 MB download speed. So about as slow as possible.

I am hamstrung by the lack of fibre optic, which doesn't come to us until Autumn 13 or Spring 14. Does anyone have any good recommendations for alternatives? Are Plus Net any good and will another provider be more reliable/provider a faster speed?

The U Swtich website says BT are the fastest locally - but obviously not for me

At the moment we use:

apple tv
2 work lap tops
ipad
ipod
old home laptop
blue ray player

how many of those devices are connected when you test the line speed ?

have you checked the BT estimator page where t suggests your likely speed ?

If you're way down on what's suggested, call BT and ask them why

Plug into the test socket (behind the master socket faceplace) and reboot the router. See what speed you get then.

Check your phone line for noise by plugging a corded phone into the test socket and dialling 17070 and pressing 2
Plug router into test socket see if it improves.

If you have a noisy line then call BT and have them come fix it.

Can I ask are you testing those speeds via Wifi or cable?

I have an issue with my broadband wireless and it is the router at fault. If I plug in when the wifi is going slow the cable works just fine. So do make sure you check on the cable as well.
