In light of another post...

I am significantly more libertarian and left-wing than I expected.

Where are you?

It's well worth reading the intro page, and then taking the test. It only takes about five minutes. Then post your results.

Me:

Given my secret liking for a bit of thought policing, I thought the red dot would be a bit higher than that. 🙂

its rather poor and predictable - and has me far further left that I am as it has no "green" content which is far more important to me

Still - for your entertainment

The questions are bad, left and right is just pictured as a fight between communism and a rampant free market. We have moved on from that now, its not that simple, most people want a form of capitalism that values the world and people, and doesn't just view them as commodities.

It's not quite three dimensional enough to allow for my many complexities - but as a bit of fun, it's not so bad.

Everyone knows socialism and the left is financially unviable anyway.
Even the Guardian 😉

I think you'll find that Pol Pot was closer to Thatcher than me tazzymtb.

How Thatcher gave Pol Pot a hand

And with his abolition of all money, you could say quite a "Libertarian".

I actually was trying to get close to Stalin. And although I managed to get as far left as possible, despite my best effort, I could not up the "authoritarian" score. I really don't know how you need to answer the questions to get as authoritarian as Stalin. The test is a load of bollox imo.

I'm not very good with politics generally (I had to read the left / right description as I've never understood it) but,

... I suppose that's about what I'd have guessed if pressed.

The problem I had with the test is they need "I have no opinion" or "I don't understand the question" options. Some of my answers were best guesses.

Interesting. Further left than I expected to be. Further left than Gordon Brown- that can't be right. About where I expected on the libertarian side.

I don't think it's complete bollocks, notwithstanding the limitations of a five minute survey. Concerned about some of the answers some people must have given to end up so far to the right/authoritarian end of the spectrum though; there were some real humdingers in there...

Have you seen the results and compared them with what they reckon ?

[img] [/img]

According to that test most people on here are more libertarian than Gandhi, which is quite frankly absurd. And no one on here comes even close to Thatcher on the authoritarian score, that is ridiculous - this is STW ffs.

So their scale is simplistic, and they didn't manage to pin Gandhi or Thatcher (Still not dead BTW) down to actually complete the survey. As I said, not Complete bollocks...

How do you post the result anyway? I used IMG but no joy...

Do I need to go through the test to find my political compass? LOL!

Very easy, nuke the maggots mankind from this earth and let the earth regenerate. Left? Centre? Right? LOL! Nuke all as everyone is equal.

I'm suprised that so many of us are down in the bottom left quadrant.

When I had some of my students do this, there was much more variation, and it was very reflective of the spectrum of political opinions in the seminar room.

I wonder what that says about the STW crowd. I mean, I would have expected us all to drive Volvos, have beards (males only, obviously), wear sandals off the bike (and preferably through the whole winter), and use Macs, but where we don't actually do this, we all seem to be giving Gandhi a run for his money.

saxonrider -my guess is like in most groups the right wing stwers do not want to admit it so are not doing the test. same as usually opinion polls underestimate Tory votes and have to have a correction applied as people deny want to vote tory

Oh come off it - what forum are you talking about ? There's plenty on here who are not in the least bit shy to tell you how much the admired Thatcher and how much they dislike the left.

The truth is that if Thatcher weren't doolally and could do the test, she wouldn't score as authoritarian as they claim she is. Their political analysis of people is crap. I didn't like the woman but to suggest that Thatcher was considerably closer, by a country mile, to Hitler than to Gandhi, just more right wing than Hitler, is absurd.

EDIT: I normally get this to work, must be a left wing conspiracy - a scintilla to the left of Stoner - same on libertarian axis.

Stoner - good to see all us swivel eyed right wing loons are so far right on the graph.

and has me far further left that I am

Just as well self-awareness wasn't charted.

Load of bollox if you ask me. Every time I hear 'libertarian' I think of those fools in the US vying for power.
