Aside from that, the habit of two polish guys congregating next to our house and getting pissed in the alley has continued, with them being witnessed spitting into our garden yesterday.
I’m going to shout a warning from a distance today, but after that, Police or overreaction? It’s unnecessary outdoors, and the spitting is of course a transmittable mechanism.
K57 call the police non emergency, they have been moving drinkers in the park opposite us along. Mention they are spitting on to your property as well, may not be dealt with immediately but far better than you getting involved (for all parties)
Oooh, my chance to do the faux outrage bit before anyone else.....
What relevance is it to the story that they are polish? Are you a bit brexity on the quiet?
What relevance
None, stop your (faux) Daily mail victim based entitlement that drives you to believe someone mentioning a nationality forces you to a racist political assumption.
Drunken shoeshines wandering the streets. Society is truly broken.
K57, for avoidance of doubt I'm taking the piss
next - accusations of the Edinburgh defence.
Besides, polish isn't a race.
Sorry Kryters but calling out their nationality was the first thing to strike me about your wee tale too. I've obviously been hanging around here too long 😂
I’m going to shout a warning from a distance today, but after that, Police or overreaction?
You’re going to have to escalate it to a “no pudding” scenario after that
Christ, it’s just a descriptor, as would white, male (guys), middle aged, tall, thin, fat, shaven head, glasses....
That’s the problem with everyone’s entitlement to form an opinion, you either are offended by the fact I used it, or offended on someone else’s behalf. Yet I’d didn’t use it in a negative context.
Am I by default sexist because I mentioned thier gender as well? Just so I know where I stand...
not necessarily sexist, but by assuming gender did you take into account they may not specifically identify with cis-genders?
(also, for avoidance of doubt, tongue in cheek ^)
You also misspelled their, for double whammy pedantry points. (christ, this is going way better / worse than I expected)
I've heard that Google Translator is ideal for practicing your Polish swear words.
Kryton now wanders off to get drunk with the lads in the alleyway.
lads is a bit presumptive......
Kilo joins them, opens can of Zywiec, imbibes heavily.
At this hour? Jesus! *Pondo is impressed*
Nostrovia!
On a complete thread derailment, I went to Warsaw for work many years ago and at one meeting with the head of the Warsaw drugs squad , three of us did a whole bottle of Zubrowska vodka before 11.00 am. This was on top of a hangover of epic proportions (puked whilst on a serious Guinness session the night before) and then off for lunch and beers. They said I’d make a good Pole with my then capacity for alcohol. Savage place!
Couple of teachers here got fined $100 each for carpooling to work. Seems ridiculous to me.
can of Zywiec
Outrage*, Ocado have swapped Moretti for.... Sol. Bllurgh.
*Tongue in cheek, huge 1st world issue I know, a little humour helps.

I car share and every single bug or cold the other gets ends up shared. Based on that sample of one I think car sharing is 100pc effective in spreading disease.
Seems ridiculous to me.
Without going in for a snog, I can think of few ways more counterproductive as regards social distancing efforts.

Very much this. 🤦
Seems like the weather forecast is set fair for much of the country this weekend. 😮
I think many constabularies have reporting forms on their websites - only making that assumption as Avon & Somerset do. So you guys can get nice and busy. There’s always 101 if you have no form to submit.
.
Heard on the grapevine that Derbyshire Police armed drone unit is locked, loaded and ready to go for the weekend. Some of you snowflakes on here need to get a grip, without positive action like this, my favourite Peak District trails will be blocked by picnicking viral victims. Just saying like, in an entirely unselfish way...

That armed drone test doesn't seem heavy handed to me at all. In fact, I'm wondering what the Army are doing with their Apache gunships this weekend.
Go big or stay home.
the habit of two polish guys
I read that as posh guys.
Therefore I can't be doing racisms today. Go me!
Go big or stay home.
Stay home or go bang
Heard on the grapevine that Derbyshire Police armed drone unit is locked, loaded and ready to go for the weekend.
Thank the lord its locked. Wouldn’t want some scally nicking it.
and I very much doubt that the police would fancy compulsory enforcement either.
What like these chaps who managed to prosecute with the wrong legislation, waste court time and public money.
Probably tried for being black in a public place too.
(I realise that this is a subset of the police services in the country but it's the same mindset as displayed by Derbyshire's Chief Constable. To quote David Alan Green "idiots").
Likely to be reasonable:
going for a run
or cycle or practicing yoga.
Walking in the countryside
or in cities. Attending an
allotment.
Driving to countryside and
walking (where far more
time is spent walking than
driving).
Exercising more than once
per day
Oh no...
Off of Lakes I go then.
Oh no…
I know.
****ing yoga!
Aside from that, the habit of two polish guys congregating
Also, and I know this is a bit late, but I'm not sure two people can 'congregate'. I think technically the implication is of people grouping together to form a crowd or similar mass. I guess if the two polish (sic. surely should be capitalised) guys were extraordinarily large, you might argue that they were forming a crowd, but I think it's more likely that they were simply 'meeting' and your case would be thrown out of court on a technicality.
I know.
**** yoga!
I shall be driving to the Highlands for some high mountain goat yoga shortly. I expect that explaining the goat bit to the local constabulary may be problematic, but I'll take my chances.

PM me with your plans first and I’ll get an incident logged so the lads leave you and your goat in peace.
@thegreatape do rozzers read that guidance? If I go family Kayaking [1] with my young kids will they know from that document it's kosher?
I'm also a bit worried about publish shaming by people who think it's not Kosher.
[1] 5 minute drive, 2 hours exercise, more intense than an allotment visit.
Oh no…
That was my thoughts as well.
Just as an example Peak District National Park Authority stats have it as around 20million people living within an hour's drive.
Attending an allotment.
Can you attend an allotment, tending yes attending? Unless it's like turning up to the opening of an envelope.
PM me with your plans first and I’ll get an incident logged so the lads leave you and your goat in peace.
Cheers fella. Just so it's clear, the goat is totally legit and fully documented with a verified pedigree. It's also safe around other livestock. I know that's not mentioned specifically in the advice, but I do feel it's within the spirit of 'things'.

I’ve only skim read it but it seems to be encouraging a pragmatic approach so I would hope most cops would. (In England obviously, we already have common sense up here 😉).
Personally I’d have no issue with the kayaking and I think most of my colleagues would be the same. That said, we’re lucky enough to live and work in an area of very low population density, so maybe we see it a bit differently? The only enforcement I’m aware of in our area are people driving up from the south for a day out because they’re bored, who’ve been given tickets and been sent homeward, tae think again. I can’t say what would happen elsewhere but for me the important thing is whether or not what people are doing risks spreading the virus or not, because that’s the overriding issue.
BWD - sounds like you’ve been very responsible in your preparation and goat husbandry, which is to be applauded. Mind out for ticks.
I think they should be wearing masks at least for their own protection. Even if it is of minor use they are getting close enough to directly speak to you and 2m is a bit to exacting to be wholly accurate.
The WHO website states transmission as coughing, sneezing or speaking. And im sure with the latter a policeman/woman speaking to you isnt speaking normally, but lecturing directly at you, so I would logically think they would project further than casual speaking.
6 months ago people were complaining theres not enough police, and the police themselves saying they need more officers and increased budgets.
Seems to be a hell of a lot of them on patrol now.
BWD – sounds like you’ve been very responsible in your preparation and goat "husbandry"
You mean it's acceptable if you're in a manonagoat relationship ?
The WHO website also recommends a 1 metre separation.
Here is ‘the list’ of what is being deemed acceptable as issued to the police today:
Buying several days’ worth of food, including luxury items and alcohol.
Collecting surplus basic food items from a friend.
Going for a run or cycle or practicing yoga.
Walking in the countryside or in cities.
Attending an allotment.
Driving to countryside and walking (where far more time is spent walking than driving).
Stopping to rest or to eat lunch while on a long walk.
Buying tools and supplies to repair a fence panel damaged in recent bad weather.
Taking an animal for treatment.
Moving to a friend’s address for several days to allow a ‘cooling-off’ following arguments at home.
And some examples of what isn’t ok:
Buying paint and brushes, simply to redecorate a kitchen.
Driving for a prolonged period with only brief exercise.
A short walk to a park bench, when the person remains seated for a much longer period.
A person who can work from home choosing to work in a local park.
A person knocking on doors offering to do cash in-hand work.
Visiting a vet’s surgery in person to renew a prescription (where this could be done over the phone).
Visiting a friend in their address or meeting in public to socialise.
I’ve only skim read it but it seems to be encouraging a pragmatic approach so I would hope most cops would. (In England obviously, we already have common sense up here 😉).

I'm not fussy. I think as long as you stay within the spirit of the advice and keep it off social media it's all good 🙂
Stopping to rest or to eat lunch while on a long walk.
Maybe now they’ll stop the stupid practice of taping off benches to stop people sitting on them! Plenty of people who need to get out for some fresh air, exercise and sunshine, and just clear their heads a bit, are also likely to have some health issues that are likely to see them wanting to sit down for a bit; I know I do, my shonky knee demands it quite often. Trouble is, around here the only park with benches is fenced and locked up, so there’s virtually nowhere to sit to rest for a few minutes, even if I wanted to!
When I do drive out of town for a walk, the walk is always a lot longer than the drive, otherwise there’s no point.
Does this mean a Bob Graham Round is on? I can drive to Moots Hall in Keswick and back inside six hours after all.

Thats how I interpret it 🙂

Thank you so much. It's my decision whether or not to tape up 4 local benches. I had reluctantly decided we should - mainly to send a signal that people are supposed to be exercising, not sitting about. Your post has saved me making a very dumb mistake.

don't see many tickets being handed out here....
on many many levels.

My hardware store does contactless delivery. Phone and order your stuff and they'll put it outside for you or deliver it.
Struggling to see how the first is fine but the second is not bearing in mind it's exactly the same process....
Buying paint and brushes, simply to redecorate a kitchen.
I don't get that either. People are home, if they can do something useful, that generates some economic activity and is little or no risk to their health, they should be encouraged.
Buying paint and brushes, simply to redecorate a kitchen.
just buy a small bag of screws as well, say you need to fix and paint a fence.
People are home...
They aren't though are they, they are going out to buy paint brushes.

Apart from supermarkets, most places like hardware stores are now delivery only, no customers in the shop. Phone or email orders only.
Personally don't have an issue with purchasing DIY stuff. I had something urgent needed repairing BH Monday, bought on line from Screwfix, paid electronically, collected from my nearest branch, they had good social distancing measures in place, never got close to anyone unlike Thursday's clap for the NHS which seems to now have loads of people in the street mingling and letting off fireworks, or is it ok to flout the rules when you're virtue signalling en masse?
Maybe now they’ll stop the stupid practice of taping off benches to stop people sitting on them!
I did think that this was edging towards the "Capt Mainwaring" end of Covid-19 lock down regulations...
I was chatting with an acquaintance today who just happens to be a copper and he said they've been told to use their better judgement and assess each incident individually. As such, he would consider that driving for an hour, no matter how long the ride is, is taking the piss and well outside the intent of the regulations. He also said that the document linked above hasn't been disseminated to officers yet, although his partner, who is non-police personnel is aware of it.
I've just been copied an email from Police Scotland Comms stating a few things about the NPCC guidance that has been doing the social media rounds due to the confusion it has caused. It was actually guidance for the CPS. It only applied to England and the NPCC are putting out some clarifications on it.
They're also pointing out to media that the advice issued by both Police Scotland and the Scottish Government has been really clear - people should not drive somewhere for exercise/dog walking etc.

People keep saying the advice is really clear, when really clearly it isn't.
Can I drive somewhere for exercise or to walk my dog?
Government guidance states that you can go outside for daily exercise. However, the Scottish Government advises that you should stay local, use open spaces near to your home where possible and avoid unnecessary travel.
Why not just say "no you can't" If that is the intention rather than waffle on about "staying local" and "where possible"?

I presume to handle the handful of edge cases where someone *really* needs to drive somewhere to exercise. (eg someone with a handicap that needs to exercise outside on grass and can't do so from their home. I'm making that up but you get the idea. There will be edge cases.)
Right after 3 weeks cooped up I'm thinking of leaving west london at first light tomorrow morning, driving 30 mins towards the Chilterns and doing 90 mins without stopping off road on my bike on my own!. It's a route I've done many times, very tame and I would be home by 10.30 am. When I've done this route previously in normal times I have met one or two people max unlike walking round my local park which is mobbed at the moment. Also now I don't have to paint my bloody kitchen!
el vino - why not ride around relatively empty streets in west london as that would be more in keeping with the *spirit* of the regs whereas your proposal wouldn't.

Personally, I (now) think that's morally and legally ok.
How about getting up 30 mins before first light and getting there at first light. Even less chance of meeting someone.

Pretty good call to be honest, 5 am alarm 5.30 departure it is
Apart from supermarkets, most places like hardware stores are now delivery only, no customers in the shop. Phone or email orders only
And the ones I’ve seen in London are doing a really good job of distancing. Pre order by phone, collect from the door. Socially distanced queue.
Driving to exercise is in there for the many folk who have to drive to reach a decent 'green space'. Driving for a couple of hours to a National Park or whatever, when you've passed closer alternatives is less reasonable. Farmers up here are busy lambing at the moment and seeing cars arrive and folk going walking through their gates and using local services/shops clearly increases the risk to them. Who fills in and does th lambing once you're ill?
The DIY thing is also clear - it's acceptable to buy stuff for repairs, but not for re-decorating. The guidance is there to reduce transmission, so the fewer the number of unnecessary trips, the better."It's not fair" doesn't come into it. Everyone knows if what they are doing involves a risk and whether it's reasonable. There'll be plenty being 'holier than thou' about this, who'll go back to drinking themselves into A&E on a Friday, and/or driving like ****ts.
Oh dear ☹️
That's not good; apart from the attitude he's definitely not social distancing.
Oh dear ☹️
You have my sympathies.
Appreciated 👍🏼
Yes there must be plenty of his colleagues pulling their hair out at the damage to their reputation that this one incident causes.

I suspect theres a bit more to that story that the upstanding citizens have decided to cut out. 🤔
