So, it’s new car time and I quite like the look of the Polestar 2
Reviews seem to be mostly favourable and suggest picking the Polestar over an XC40, which was my original choice.
Had anyone got real world experience?
I know you can spec it with a tow-bar and there’s plenty of racks that will fit so that’s a +1 already!
I haven't, but I really like how they look, and the brand.
A mate test drove one, and said it was lovely, generally really well thought through and put together - seats very comfortable (they've obviously used volvo expertise there).
He came up with 2 drawbacks - 1) the rear visibility is poor and 2) in the RHD car, there's very little space for your left foot, which means it may get uncomfortable over time and on long journeys.
It's pretty inefficient for an EV. Most tests suggest around 3-3.2miles/kWh. Similar tests on the Tesla Model Y show around 4.1-4.35 miles/kWh.
I had an option on one at work. I declined as quite frankly I think they look terrible. But horses for courses etc. somebody else at work has one and generally likes it but says similar on the RHD factor, some of the conversion feels like and 11th hour ‘oh sh**, there’s a uk/Japan market too?’
Hmmm, interesting - it’s easy enough for me to get a test drive here in Dublin.
I’ll get one booked in!
A mate had one from work for a week and absolutley raved about it. He has had a Tesla as well and said the Polestar blew it away in his opinion. This is obviously first impressions not ownership but he has worked in the car industry so knows a bit.
Put an order in for one last week - got cancelled (as they've paused taking orders on the version (SM SR) we were after). May be opening the book Early-Mid next year from what the leasing company told me.
I had a good long test drive of one before putting in the order and really liked it. I've had a shorter ride of a Tesla M3 and there's very little between them (aside from the M3 having greater efficiency/range). Weirdly, despite being roughly the same rrp the Polestar worked out over £100 a month cheaper, so was a bit of a toss up. Loved the one pedal driving (and I found having none, light and standard versions really useful). I think (as did my wife) that the interior of the P2 was much more 'normal' than the M3 - she preferred it as it wasn't such a departure to what she's used to. I'd quite happily have gone with either.
The OS system was good (being apple users, we're covered as well with CarPlay), but the driver display/info area behind the steering wheel was amazing. Loved that. It felt a big car on the outside, but smaller (not necessarily bad - cosy) on the inside. Cup holder layout is stupid, though.
After driving those two, I really don't like driving my ICE car now! So yeah - bit gutted.
SM LR and DM LRs are apparently still available for order - though not sure how long (and some of the packs might not be available - particularly the Plus).
I like the look of them so I looked to see where they're made.
China I believe but correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes I know they're Volvo/Swedish & Volvo's are now built in China.
I'm oot.
I've driven one, and I work with people who've had them for up to a couple years (in Norway). I see a good number about, like the looks. They're not the most efficient, not the longest range, but if you're OK with that I don't hear many/any complaints.
I wouldn't get the XC40. Very inefficient, expensive, bit of a bus
