I am definitely not playing it, and the fact that there is a Pokemon Gym at the viewpoint up the road has no influence on my decision to watch the sunset this evening.

A quick word of warning to the android players. If you're loading an apk to play in the UK, there's every chancey you'll lose your progress when the official EU release drops.

I've seen it happen with other games

You can get it on iOS if you switch your region to Australia (or one of the other regions that already has it) then creat a free iTunes account with a valid address which is easily found on google maps. Then switch back once it's downloaded.. I did it and no issues. My son loves it, even comes out walking the dog with me now to find new characters and pokestops.

Just at Gyms, once you reach level 5 you can battle your pokemons against rival gyms to take them over for your team, yellow, red or blue team.
Or you can battle in friendly gyms for xp.
Also in friendly gyms, you can assign pokemon to defend them, you cant use them or evolve them when they are assigned to a gym, but they'll earn you lots of xp and pokecoins.

Apparently trading and one on one fights outside of the gyms are in the pipeline for future updates.

Check out what i got!

Mr Toast caught a couple last night!

[img] [/img]

I'm waiting for the proper UK release, can't be bothered going through the palaver of signing into my New Zealand Apple account for my iPad (which I think would be a bit impractical given the nature of the game anyway) or risk dodgy side loading on my Android phone, especially with the risk of losing progress once the proper launch hits. Plus I can barely walk at the moment!

I'd never heard about it till Joe Rogan talked about the pokemon game on his latest podcast #823, after all the fuss that was raised about ID cards i find it quite unsettling that people are happy to hand over so much data such as location/pictures of your home and surroundings to google servers, maybe it's my natural paranoia raising it's head but it seems like the beginning of a slide into an all seeing/watching big brother dystopian future.

But then again i've never owned a game machine or got into video games so perhaps my natural instinct to sneer at such an augmented reality game is unfounded.

Not for me in the slightest but i'm a paranoid android at the best of times.

The article doesn't actually cite people being banned for side loading, but does reference the potential for malware by downloading from an unknown source, and bans for cheats who use things like GPS spoofing that makes the game think you're in a different physical location.

im conflicted on this.

on one hand it was great to see so many kids(mostly teens and early 20s of the pokemon legacy generation tbh rather than "kids") out and about in the park (kings park perth australia.)

It took me ages to work out WTF they were all doing walking about staring at their phones.

On the other hand they are all walking aroudn the park like zombies looking at their phones and ipads walking into people and things.

My daughter patiently explained to my wife that there weren't *actual* Pokemon hiding in bushes at the local park because it's not a LARP.

Then she had to explain what a LARP is.

Is anyone else struggling to register on this?
I've downloaded the app, but the Pokemon site won't let me register when I enter my email- it gives the message '('email', [u'This field cannot be blank.'])'.
I've tried registering on a windows PC, iphone and ipad, but keep getting the same message.
Any handy hints to get past this and get my young'un started?

so I was out for woodland cycle the other night (Hanchurch woods if you're local) and as I was coming to the end I cycled through a grassy patch surrounded by trees and bushes, 2 men were walking apart but sort of together and they looked a bit furtive. It's about 9.30pm. 2 steps away there was another 2 men walking together towards the same bushes. This carpark is well known dogging/gay hook up spot so I just carried on through back to my car. While I was packing up my stuff into the car another car pulled up and some kids and adults pulled up, the kids running about holding up phones going 'it's over here, up here, there it is...' I wanted to say errr don't go up that way or you might get a Pikachu more than you bargained for. 😕

I am currently wandering round Peterborough while I wait for a passport. Just realised I have just spent the last hour looking for bloody Pokemons.

Worse thing is, apart from being nearly 40 and playing, is 50% of the ones I have found have crashed the app while trying to upload the find.

Stay safe kids.

Is there any way of finding out pokemon locations without having the game? wondering if the sudden increase in kids hanging around outside the local church is related.

wondering if the sudden increase in strange pale kids wearing fashions that went out in the early 90s, kids that you don't recognise because they haven't left their bedrooms since they were 4 years old, hanging around outside the local church is related.

Our local community has nearly doubled in size of late

Completely and utterly unconnected. I don't take a TV with me EVERYWHERE. And have to stare at the ****ing screen ALL THE TIME. And have to capture things, play things, communicate with people, read stuff, etc etc CONSTANTLY. 😕

I think it's to do with older people getting fed up of being blamed for doing alright after a life time of work by people who think using smartphones and geolocation satellites to play a stupid game is a good use of their time.

It's like grown ups laughing at children, basically.

It appears the reports about the 'kids' getting lost in the caves was actually wrong, they were blokes exploring without maps or local knowledge who got lost, and jokingly told their rescuers they were looking for Pokemon, which got taken seriously by the meeja, however, there's been an incident in Weston-Super-Mare at Birnbeck Island, with kids accessing the derelict pier and the rocks around the island, which had the lifeboat crews out, because the walkway to the lifeboat station on the island became too dangerous for the crews to walk along! The tide comes in at 3mph, walking speed, and is really bloody dangerous around Weston, Burnham and Brean, so it could have been a tragedy.
Apparently the underlying geolocation system this game uses comes from an older spy game, where the geolocation was used for things like virtual dead-letter drops and the like, so the Pokemon can turn up anywhere, including the goldsmith shop in Corsham where my mate works!
They've apparently had a couple of rare/high value ones appear there...

I was in Hong Kong when it was released earlier in the week. Now, anyone who's been there recently will know that the general (non-expat) population are almost permanently attached to their phones at the best of times, but this was something else. Like a totally consuming mania! It seemed at times that every other person one walked past was frantically swiping away to catch a fukkilypups or whatever.

It was eerie, almost sci-fi like in some places, with people in some sort of daze like state!
