Loved the old one for all the bad (but great,) acting and surfing stuff.

Is the new one worth an evenings watching tonight or should I just cut out the middle man and pull all my toenails out with plyers?

I think this thread will only benefit from you watching it. So watch it.

I’ve caught bits of it and can conclude absolutely not.

One of those re-makes that begs the question: why did you bother?

So a good homage to the original CountZero?

It’s...... OK.

Only you will know if you’ve lost 2hrs of your life though.

Suspend all preconceptions and view it as not a re-make, but a movie in its own right.

Might help, might not.

🤷‍♂️🍔

It's not sounding too promising then.

Considering 2hrs of my life is worth about 50p I might just give it a go anyway?

I watched the CGI version of The Jungle Book the other night and really enjoyed it, so maybe my standards are lower than everyone else's?

It is nothing like the original, fortunately.

I loved the first one and rank the movie in my top 3 films.

The remake is worth one watch and that's it, a bit like the remade Total Recall or Italian Job...once is enough

I’m saving it for a long haul flight somewhere.

No Swayze, no good. The original is a classic. Not seen the new one. Slightly off topic but Jungle Book was brilliant.

I managed about 20 minutes. Perhaps it gets better after that.

No, except for trying to work out why it doesn't work and the original is such a classic.

I love the fact that you are seeing an action sports movie with nobody wearing a GoPro, yet Alien Covenent set in God only knows when was full of a crew covered in GoPro mounts.

It'll be dross and I won't be watching it.

Sat through the new Jumanji, wow, what a ****ing stinker! On my list of worst films ever but apparently people like it and it did alright at the box office, huh well there you go.

Box office isn't a good yardstick, look at last star wars 'film' frinstance. Dreadful.

Holy moley that was bad!

If you haven't seen it, then please save yourself and watch the original again. See........it's not as bad as you remember it.

Not really sure why they thought a remake would be a good idea?

Utter dross.

I loved the original in the nineties, but after watching the admittedly bad remake I watched the original again... some great scenes, but actually very bad.

If you show the original to a teenager today they would laugh at you. It is a good sentimental watch in context if you watched and loved it nearly thirty years ago. A good slice of cheese.

The new one - got to confess I've only half watched it (airplane doze film). It is a film with the same title and same character names - pretty much the end of the comparison. Plot lines are pretty radically different.

The Disney remake of the Jungle book is fantastic, it'll be interesting to see if gollum makes a decent version.

The remade Total Recall was one of the worst things I've seen recently, even with brain switched off as much as possible. All the ambiguity and humour of the original was just wiped out.

The original was brilliant, if only for totting up the total number of expressions which Keanu Reeves is capable of. Possibly three if being asleep counts as an expression. It's just classic cheese. The remake is appalling.

"Total Dog’s Breakfast"

Now that is a film that I would pay to watch.

I suspect you are right.  I'm a little afraid to watch it now as the original was just at the right time and felt great.  Not sure I want to spoil a great memory but I'm curious.  There is probably a whole thread there in things you would like to revisit but shouldn't.  That thread would mention the name Louise, a lot

The original is the first film I remember watching and thinking "this is terrible". I never understand people's fondness for it.

Saw the original in the cinema when it came out and thought it was fun and, whilst an american action film, was also from a female director with growing reputation so monchrome subtitle credentials not totally jeopardised.

However, this was before I discovered surfing which is indeed is the sauce, and will change your life, swear to god. Albeit not necessarily in a positive direction. Either way I now see the original as more of a sacred text, with added Busey. Stands up well to a re-watch - the chase through houses scene say, often copied but not surpassed.

I liked the remake of Total Recall. It felt so different to the original I didn't feel it benefited from drawing comparisons.

Point Break though – I won't watch it. The original is hallowed ground. The remake looks like it's a Vegas film; taking the best bits of everything and reproducing it in a hideous mockery designed to appeal to the soulless.

Ha. The Italian Job. Why not talk about U-571 while we're here?

I'd watch a two hour film of Gary Busey just ordering more sandwiches and looking for  an imaginary lost dog.

The rest of the film was just bonus material on top of that cinematic gold.

The new one is rubbish ... I'm not in it !!

"But Ro5ey, he's a machine. He's got this gift of blankness ... (only when the Mrs is bleating on)...Once you set my in motion, he will not stop" .... except for tea n cake... 🙂

I look nothing like him, mind.... probably more in the Reeves' pretty boy mould on the basis he's one of the wife's eye candy favs ...??

Point Break and Roadhouse were Swayze's finest moments and are both classics of that particular genre. Some will like them some won't if we all liked the same things life would be boring.

It's a good film, the cinematography of the surfing scenes is incredible.

Watched it reasonably recently & it hasn't aged as badly as I thought it was going to .

Roadhouse...... that's definitely going to get a re watch in the next week.

No one suggesting Ghost for Patrick Swayze's best film then?

Thought not.
