Looks like I’m about to spend some frustrating hours in Gatwick airport thanks to some errant drones, so need some podcast recommendations.
Following the Bigfoot thread I’ve downloaded the Wild Thing cast which is brilliant. I also listen to In Our Time, which is intermittently fantastic, as is Malcolm Gladwell’s Revionist History.
Broken Record is also interesting (the latest one on Black Metal is very funny).
What else do people listen to?
Look Sideways has some very good interviews with "adventure sports" people, the one with Jenny Jones recently was cracking.
Running Commentary is 2 comedians going for a gentle run around a park. It's very funny and quite relaxing.
The Grade Cricketer is very funny and vert dry, but you need to know your cricket to get it.
The Peter Couch Podcast is hilarious. The last one is just out but the back catalogue is worth a listen.
Quickly Kevin, very good for fans of 90's football.
Ah yes, someone else has recommended the Crouch one too. Good list thanks.
Any more?
Adam Buxton from the Adam and Joe Show is very good and has some great guests.
dead man talking is pretty good if you are interested in crime..
My main ones are:
Adam Buxton
Last podcast on the left
Richard herrimgs Leicester Square etc
Bill burrs Monday morning podcast
Case file
I like true crime and comedy
Currently burning through 6 music Marc Riley's A-z of punk/psychedelia which is just great and an easy listen if you're into music
For generally interesting bits and pieces I like:
Stuff you should know
Science Vs
Talk Nerdy
Skeptics guide to the universe
Current favourite is "Rule of three", comedy writers chatting to a guest about their love for a specific comedy show (different show each time).
Quite enjoy "The The One Show Show" where John Holmes takes the piss out of the One show, although it does get a bit samey.
you'll either like it or not, but Athletico Mince has me laughing out loud in public places
Oh yes, forgot about Athletico Mince. So good.
"Containers" is interesting. The story of how the standardisation of shipping containers has completely changed the world, though allowing more efficient trade. Sounds dull but really isn't.
I heard about the Containers podcast on another one that I occasionally listen to - "99% Invisible" which mainly focuses on design and how it can improve things or impact people without them necessarily noticing. There is a very broad spectrum of topics that have been covered over the years.
If you want to laugh, and have a puerile sense of humour - "My Dad Wrote a Prono" is good fun. The premise is that one of the three presenters discovered that their dad had written some really naff erotic novels and they read a chapter a week, often with much hilarity.
Hah, containers actually sounds really good, right up my strasse. Keep ‘em coming, my flight has been cancelled but I’m gonna dive into lots of these anyway.
The Infinite Monkey cage is hard to beat if you like science. About 100 of them covering everything from biology to life in space
Really enjoying Containers and Adam Buxton. Any more suggestions?
If you like words, The Allusionist is fascinating and the episodes are bite-sized. I'm currently binging my way through a couple of years' worth.
I really like Escape This Podcast too, self-described as "a cross between escape rooms and tabletop role-playing games."
Hah. Will definitely try the Escape one too. Cheers.
It's ace. The first episode is a bit ropey, give it a couple. I liked it so much I backed it on Patreon.
Kermode and Mayo if you like films.
Marc Maron for great long form interviews.
Fresh Air by NPR.
Fighting Talk for sports based laughs.
Bit late but I like the science of ultra.and while running orientated alot of it is applicable across sport.
Depends on your background though , somefolk might find it too technical/dry/analytical.
Suits my mind though
Guessing (hoping) you've taken off by now but if not, and you like maths, try Odds and Evenings.
Alternatively, and less geeky, Freakonomics radio has some good episodes.
Lastly, and surprisingly, I really enjoyed "Where do We Begin?" Recommended by a friend, thought I'd hate it but gave it a go, was hooked.
