Christmas gift for our 12 yo daugter who is getting a bit arty and wants a camera.
I have a nice Sony Compact that has a few extra features, being able to make images look like a watercolour, colour pop etc and the one I have seen so far

http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3804650.htm

looks ok, with the same sort of creative features.

Any other suggestions?

Not much at that price. Nikon Coolpix L31 comes to mind, has a few creative scene modes (sepia etc) and video, but you'd need to factor in the cost of rechargeable AAs etc.

You proably have the right answer in the Sony, unless going down used route.

For another 20 quid there are still some Olympus Stylus VR-370 'new/other' deals about. Good reviews, many filters - ('magic art'), 12x optical zoom.

According to Camera Price Buster Sony DSC-W800 has been superseded by the DSC-W810 (6x / 12x zoom). Cheapest at Currys for only £5 more than your Argos DSC-W800 link (£65).
(Tried to include Currys link - but couldn't)

4.5/5 stars over 48 reviews Sony Link

HTH

No personal Sony experience (my compact is a Canon S95 which shoots RAW plus JPG)

Thanks for the advice.
The Panasonic looks interesting given it was a £130ish camera to start with.
Olympus gets good reviews but I can't find a seller in bugget.

Aaaargh...so much choice and so many reviews.
How can 8 of 10 sites say a camera is good and two say it's pants, but it's the minority that holds more influence.

anyway, now down to that Panasonic on ebay, refurb, wifi, arty etc but some terrible, some excellent reviews, even at full price.

Or a Sony dsc w830 (the more newerer) one of the W810

Or the Canon ixus 145...

someone in the know please help me before my wife "just bl**dy buys one"

Does it have to be digital. Can pick up a Lomography diana on amazon brand new for £28! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lomography-HP650-Camera-discontinued-manufacturer/dp/B002OL2FX8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449001384&sr=1-1&keywords=retro+camera

Or £35 for the flash version.

If you can find it i use a benq AC100. Cheap as chips and has the built in filters. Take nice pics, but not going to usurp a dslr.
