I thought this was something old people got, but here I am! 5 days of phenomenally high temperature and generally feeling sh*t, finally went to Dr and diagnosed with pneumonia. I've been off work 3 weeks now, done 2 weeks on 2 different antibiotics, and my temperature is STILL up. I don't feel that bad but am taking everything very easy and coughing my guts up.

How long does this go on? Anyone else?

I had it when I was quite young. I didn't find out until I was an adult and my dentist told me that I'd had vast amounts of penicilin at some point in my life, apparently they can tell by looking at your gums. When I asked my mother when I'd been so ill she told me. Almost died aged 3 apparently 😯

due to an underlaying medical condition ( CVID ) I've had pneumonia more times than I've had hot dinners

off work 3 weeks.. two courses of antiobio , still elevated temps.

sounds to me like you should be in hospital on IV young man.

( normal course for me would be antibio for 10 days and a couple more days of feeling washed out )

Young woman, Grynch! Not so young actually. Seeing doctor who is actually OLDER than me, which is reassuring, so I guess he knows what he's doing.

That's rough on you, sorry to hear. But I think I suffered less with the pneumonia because my lungs are in good shape after riding up Yorkshire dales all summer. Breathing-wise it wasn't that bad, which is prob why I thought it was flu and didn't go to doctor for so long - I guess the alveoli that weren't fluid-filled were doing a very efficient job!

my apologies to your gender Cooroo ,as well as my apologies to your doc. but no matter how good your lungs might be if you are still fighting pneu. after all this time it sounds to me like you need a more aggressive treatment

Wifey had it about ten years ago. She was regularly market trading at that time and was most gutted that she had to take a couple of days off.
She really did look poorly but insisted on going to work all except those two days.

cooroo.. ignoring my stupid comment above.. have you been following docs orders....rest, keep warm ? , have you had any sort of respiratory therapy? that is important to get the fluids up and out.

Grynch, I'm not that many years younger than you! Well, I do rest a bit... like I get up, clean rabbit's puss-y eye-socket, hold rabbit while daughter squirts antibiotic in it, put on laundry, fold last lot of laundry, stack dishwasher. Then I lie in bed and say 'look at me resting'. Then I do some work remotely. Then I watch Star Trek TNG. Then everyone starts getting home and I cook tea. So no, not a lot.

When doc said 'another week off' I said as a joke 'I suppose I can't go out on my bike then?' and he said 'Yes that would be good for your lungs'. But I'm not sure if he thought I meant ride to the corner shop, rather than do a gentle 15 mile pootle!

and you ask why 3 weeks on you still have fever`? *shaking head*

"everyone getting home" someone else in the house must know what the cooker looks like !?!?

( and p.s.. I suppose the ride, if really a gently pootle could count as respire.therapy... Lord knows my mrs. has been after me a few times when I've been out riding, claiming it as therapy )

I just reread your original post "still coughing my guts up"
ok, I'll preface this with saying no I am not a doctor or YOUR doc. , just a poor bloke who has had pneu. about 30 times (yes really)...
.
if you are not having proper respiratory therapy IMO you should at least have a asthma inhaler (steroid) which will open up the bronchia and ease your breathing abit.

Thanks for concern and advice. I WILL try harder to rest. But as I said above, breathing is absolutely no problem, so I guess I must be on the mend. Had 2nd chest x-ray yesterday so i guess someone will contact me if it looked bad. And seeing doc again Wed.
