Have just noticed that the shower ( thermostatic mixer) trickles water when I turn the hot tap in the bathroom on .

I've not noticed this before anything to be concerned about ?

Probably a seal in the shower valve has gone (or is going)

Some are serviceable, some aren't.

Depends on the make/model.

Oh dear.

We've just had major problems with a previous shower.. This one has been in for less than 2 months.

Seriously hope it's nothing major as we had to strip all the tiles to get access... ;@/

Oh just to emphasise its the sink tap that is making the shower drip when on.

It doesn't drip otherwise.. Only when hot sink tap is turned on ??

This is what you will need to do, although it shouldn't need doing after 3 months so personally I would ring Bristan Customer services and have a word with them.

And why from the influence of a sink tap ?

Would need to know how it was all plumbed in to know why the tap has any influence on it to be honest.

That's not your fault.

If he's any good, and wants to keep his reputation. He will come back.

Otherwise, you can do it yourself, or get a decent plumber in.

I would never leave a customer in the lurch on a bathroom I installed.

Can't see why the tap would make the shower drip. If the shower is T'ed off the pipe to the tap, the water going past the T will cause a pressure drop in the branch, but why would that cause a drip? Maybe that then leaves a difference between the hot and cold pressure at the shower, leading (somehow) to drips. Does the shower drip hot or cold water?

As may be obvious, I'm not a plumber.

I know but the short story is that the initial shower was plumbed in correctly by the initial plumber BUT he'd made a bit of a bodge in access ie nightmare should it go wrong

Which 3 years later it did ( dripping head)

Went through bristan

1 Reccd I clean cartridge
2 replace cartridge
3 replace valves

Did all above but not resolved - fault was a crack in body of shower.

Bristan engineer visited to tell us yep body is leaking mate..

Bristan replaced but would not fit as tiles needed removing etc

Enter my plumber.. Who had a mare, removing old shower because of tiles etc

Update

The shower only drips I've noticed when sink hot tap is either turned on fast or is turned on fully ?

Now I know what the immediate answer is but my experience is often that faults start like this and get worse.

Does it drip constantly whilst the tap is on, or for a minute or so then stop?

Current and previous shower both have a habit of suddenly allowing the hose of water to syphon out via the shower head, caused I suspect by air gradually seeping into the hose at the mixer fitting. It seems to be triggered normally when a tap somewhere in the house is used, but if not it usually randomly empties itself about two minutes after I fall asleep at night 🙂 Once its emptied, the shower has to be used before it will do it again.

edit: if the sink tap is monobloc, hot water could be going backwards in the cold feed and causing the shower to leak from the its cold side of the mixer. Could try a check valve on the cold feed under the sink, or maybe your water pressure is too high, for which you can get a pressure reducing fitting.

P.S I ain't no plumber 🙂

Good advice though

Thanks 🙂 The tap in my campervan said it may need a check valve, I tried it without and after a week I realised the reason I couldn't control the temperature was because the hot water was feeding back so I had hot water coming out even on cold 🙂
