I've got a 15-year-old Grant Vortex in the garage. Not had much use over the last few months with the heating off and hot water on solar, but I fired it up briefly last week and noticed that the hot water tank didn't get as hot as I expected. Quick check showed the pressure gauge on zero and some water dripping from the relief valve drain.
The expansion vessel had failed so I swapped this out, but the PRV is still passing water at a very slow rate (maybe 5ml/hour). It's the original and I assume full of muck inside, which is preventing it from sealing again. Replacements are cheap but has anyone experience of changing them on a Grant?
Trying to work out if I can get away with just dropping the pressure and working quickly with some towels around the fitting (which worked for the expansion vessel), or whether it needs the whole system draining down.
ive done it . its easy enough . (on my outdoor boiler)
Have you got valves on the heating inlet/outlet .
I just shut them - and bled down the boiler pressure - via the fill port - and changed the PRV.
without valves on the inlet/outlet youll be working against the Hh of the system full of water......
like you my expansion vessel failed and tripped the PRV and after that it wouldnt hold 1.5 Bar.
Frustratingly there are no isolation valves on the flow/return. I suppose I can close off all the radiators then all that remains is the water in the loop and the hot water coil. 🤔
Try and avoid draining down as you'll then add in the expense of inhibitor that will be needed.

They might be part of the boiler rather than the pipework. Ours has the little 1/4 turn ball valves like tap isolators but they're right underneath at the back of boiler so hard to spot.
