Firstly, what are you talking about?

Those two things are not even in the same sport, never mind the same league.

Secondly, people don't arrested for swearing near a police officer.

If they did, they would need to build a full size prison in every town and city in the UK just to use as holding cells.

If the officer arrested is part of an illegal police conspiracy to destroy the career of an elected politician, as alleged by some, then it is considerably more serious and sinister than swearing at a copper.

Exactly,

"I though you people were supposed to *** help us" or "Speeding, you're * having a laugh" is hardly "You're a ****** ***"

Those two things are not even in the same sport...

One is a corrupt, overpaid, power hungry official with too many powers.

The others a politician.

You are right but it is a Tory we're talking about here. I'm almost in favour.

I found it inconceivable that between a politician and a policeman there was only one liar.

whys everyone got their knickers in a twist?

hes been arrested, if found guilty im sure he'll be sacked all for leaking a story to the press
at what point would he become a whistleblower?
who wants to go swear at a copper and see if they get arrested?
didnt mitchells own office reviewed the footage before escalting this?
....politicians drop leaks all the time

Anyway, it's not Plebgate, it's Gategate! I'm also finding it hard to understand why this forum is so anti cyclist all of a sudden.....'Cyclist victimised by Old Bill' is the real story.

is it the case that he is no longer accused of calling anyone a pleb? and thus despite being a tory and a politian the one thing he wasnt was a liar.

it reads that a small number of coppers were determined to 'get' a tory politian. if proven or even just highly probale then i m afarid the coppers are guilty of a pretty heinous crime and should lose thier jobs as a minimum . after all mitchell had to give his up in the face of thier lies/ deception.

💡 Maybe because you are comparing a possible police conspiracy against an elected politician with swearing at a copper ?

.

You are right but it is a Tory we're talking about here

I'm glad you've noticed a significant difference between Tories, and presumably, Labour/Liberal Democrat politicians yossarian.

You'll have to explain it to me one day.

I think some people are failing to grasp the difference between using "bad" language whilst arguing with a copper, and using "bad" language to be abusive to a copper.

I kind of assume that a politcian may tell lies, but as Ernie has quite rightly pointed out, if any coppers lied to try and get one sacked, and how complicit and aware the press were in reporting it, that's a whole new ball game.

Why? its not illegal!

Now, if there had been a crowd of passers by outside the gates who might have been offended, (like it said there were in the police log) then it would have been illegal, however the video evidence shows that wasn't the case, doesn't it!

It must be my age, but lately I've stopped caring about anything I see as 'Whitehall' business.

So please stop and start posting 'what new frame' questions.

Mitchell seems to be a stuck up elitist. Not desirable, but not illegal. If the police officers involved have conspired to force the removal of a person from their post and based that conspiracy around a lie, then that is a lot, lot more serious.

The annoying thing is the politics of personality. I actually don't give a toss if someone is a bit of a prat, or a snob, or whatever. Can he do the job he is in?

After the way the copper behaved over this matter, "pleb" is a fitting description for the guy! Honesty is a vital attribute for a police officer, so if they lie and cheat, they MUST be removed from their post! A Policeman who lies is therefore no better than a pleb!

And we had to endure the whining weasel Miliband repeatedly trying to score cheap points against the Conservative/Liberal party, like it was his sole mission in life. He banged on about it for weeks, but was proved to be entirely wrong! Have we had an apology for the slating of Andrew Mitchell? No chance! Laughably, Miliband has the nerve to brand the coalition the nasty party! Complete hypocrisy!

I'm sure my kids and the rest of their generation will despise this man and his party, for the huge taxes they will be paying throughout their lives, for the profligate behaviour of the Labour Party after the British electorate were stupid enough to vote them into power many years ago!

The incompetence and waste of the Labour Party in their last term was unparalleled. It amazes me that they still have the audacity to pretend they might be a viable alternative to the current administration. You'd have to be either stupid, or mad to support that shower!

Police conspire to get a Tory to resign in ignominy.
