It's hot and itchy.

I've not been lying in grass or anything. I was just in the garden and came inside and thought ouch.

There's no tick hanging on in there, so for me, no it's not a tick bite.
Must be some other garden b4stard.

It's not a tick bite, they bite and hang on while they feed. That looks like it might be blistered, horsefly, mozzie, spider are all more likely.

Nothing to worry about, it's just a one-toothed Adder bite. 😉

Am I the only one thinking "those four freckles are just like the end of The Plough" - is the OP a space alien reacting to a normally harmless earth creature. #ooohlaaaa

I don't think it's a horsefly bite. They slice rather than puncture.

Good job it's not Orion. That bite might be full of beetle juice.

Blandford fly bite? Have you been near water?

They're quite nasty, and distinctive. I had one, that got infected, within a few days I was in severe agony, couldnt walk or barely stand or lie down with any comfort - tremendous back ache, I felt like a 90yo.

I would say, keep an eye on it. Mate got bit by a horse fly whilst we were MTB'ing. Didn't think much about it until a day or two later when it was badly infected.

Thank got we don't live in Australia.

It’s not a tick bite, they bite and hang on while they feed.

They hang on for days and days, and get big and fat.

I am not sure what it is but I've had plenty of them. And you don't notice it happening either.

If it was a tick it would probably still be on there.

Monkeypox

Looks like it. To be fair to the OP it could have been caught quite innocently, to quote from the BBC website

It has not previously been described as a sexually transmitted infection, but it can be passed on by direct contact during sex.

If it was a tick then that would go down as a bit of a suck rather than a bite...

Eek! Mrs L just found a tick in the shower drain filter. Not aware that it'd been feeding on any of us, but yuck !

Going to buy a big bottle of permethrin for spraying lower trouse legs/boots!

Meant to say we think it's washed out her hair. Went for a walk yesterday that ended up in unexpected jungle warfare. So she's now leaving a brush near the front door for after such adventures

I react quite badly to bites and seem to attract all sorts. I don't take any chances these days because it's such a nuisance when they get infected, I clean them off with antiseptic wipes (or whatever there is to hand), then + anthisan cream for a few days and take a piriton a few times x 6hours

For that one OP I'd definitely, personally, be doing this!

On a serious note though. Take an antihistamine in case it is a horsefly or somesuch

100% DEET is your friend. "Jungle Strength": take no chances. Liberally apply to lower legs and arms before a ride.

I realise it’s a bit late now but yes it looks like a slightly infected horse fly bite to me IANAD

Blandford fly bite? Have you been near water?

Gah I got about 30 of those things on my legs one very hot day while mixing concrete. Had no clue what they were at first until looking up later but the bites bled freely and itched for about a week . I still hate horseflies but the Blandford fly seems to have easily topped my ‘Flying Insects With Whom I Take Umbrage’ chart.
