I'm fed up with my heroes being outed as dodgy. Now Guy Martin has been accused of driving licence fraud. He can't have trouble with passing a test surely?

I think we've covered this, sounds dodgy, something about a forged Irish license - but then he's known for hating 'red tape' and comes across a bit 'elf and safety gone mad' at times, so perhaps not out of character.

He famously had about 93 million points on his UK licence, didn't he? It may have been an alleged attempt to circumvent that issue.

I saw the thread title and thought he'd been caught out for being a nonce, so it could be worse.

Anyone who can entertain me and the wife for an hour of Saturday night telly without causing remote control wars is a hero in our house.

Me too. In line with the 'Not you too Rolf?' thread title from a few years ago (I'd search for it for accuracy, but well, you know).

anyone got an actual link to the accusation or was it just heard from a mate who knows somebody who once booked him for something?

Indeed. Assuming that is actually a photo of him on his way into court, what numpty wears a sponsor's logo whilst going to court for something that the brand would clearly want to distance themselves from.

That's a real facepalm moment, and yeah I think it's from court. When else can you imagine him in a tie.

Oh I don't know, it might simply be a statement on his preparedness for the case.

Well he's pleading innocent so I'd assume he would indeed tell you it's not true. Innocent until proven guilty and all.

However, sounds like there is some pretty damming evidence involved, i.e. a document so similar to an Irish licence ...

Which is why Hope might be his only option.

It will be interesting to follow the court case to find out the circumstances surrounding this coming to trial. I wonder how the defence will try to counter the charges. I cannot imagine that there can be any legitimate reason to be in possession of a fake driving licence.

As we don't know what document it was. Or if it actually was passed of by Guy as a driving liscense I'll wait and see how the court case go's.
But even if he's guilty I'll not be to outraged, in fact it barely registers on my outrage meter at all.

I've never been a fan, the TT film showed him to be a bit arrogant, so this does not surprise me.

Just noticed that it is a Crown Court case. If proven guilty, there is a good chance of a custodial sentence being handed down. While it may be suspended and a fine and community service imposed, it would still be a criminal conviction. I recall that there was a Newcastle player who got done for having bought a fake Belgian licence back in 2012 although he pleaded guilty which resulted in his custodial sentence being suspended.

If he did do as the charges allege, pleading guilty ahead of the trial might mitigate against a custodial sentence.

The case is being heard in July. Definitely one to watch with interest.

Definitely one to watch with interest.

Especially if he decides to conduct his own defence

The advantage of a custodial sentence is that it would remove one more irresponsible driver from our roads for a while.
