my son has started guitar lessons and wants his own acoustic guitar. Not being the slightest bit musical I have no idea what I'm looking for.
What make should I be looking for?
How much should I looking to spend?
2nd hand or new??
Many thanks in advance.
Neil
How old is he and how tall? If he is young, a classical guitar with plastic strings will be easier on his hands, in half or 3/4 size. Probably about £40 will get you something serviceable to see how he gets on. If he is older, he might be happier with a steel stringed (louder and cooler) guitar. I think you can get something really decent for a beginner for about £100. My daughter has got a Vintage, which was about that price and is ace.
I got a tanglewood, Tw28 I think, its really nice for the price it is, £125 or so. Just amazing what value for money you can get for stuff made in China..
something by Yamaha, pop into a shop and let him try some in the price range you're looking at.
Thanks guys, sorry for the tardy reply, been looking at a new pup today.
Anyway, he's 13 and quite tall, so probably full size needed?
Yamaha is usually a good shout as above. And yeah probably full size IMO.
We picked up a secondhand Yamaha F310 on Gumtree, £60 with a DVD and stand. Shouldn't be too hard to get a decent secondhand one.
Thanks chaps. Really appreciate your advice
My son started on a half size which is definitely the way to go. Bought him a freshman last Christmas which sounds fantastic fir the money. Think it was around £150.
