you can get 1Tb ones for £50 now - I'd go for one of those and if it's got two internal drives partition it so you can backup to both.

I'm a big fan of the Iomega Prestige drives - 2.5", one cable only, standard mini USB, and pretty solid. Good price, too.

Yeah - I've got one of those sitting in its box next to me. Seemed to get as good reports as just about anything without spending loads more. Sadly I can't report on the performance as it came with the wrong power supply so needs to go back for exchange 🙁
if it's got two internal drives partition it so you can backup to both

Which adds what value exactly? If the drive goes you'll lose both partitions - on something you're just using for backup rather than in day-to-day use, it's pretty unlikely for one partition on a physical disc to fail and not the other.

Maplins are doing 250Gb Seagate GoFlex drives for £35 at the moment.

Also, from Conquerer's earlier post - Amazon's "1 to 2 months" delivery - ordered a new monitor earlier this week which was advertised with a similar delivery schedule - it was dispatched this morning. That's not to say that it'll always be quicker than they say, but it might be worth a punt.

I've got one of these http://cpc.farnell.com/toshiba/px1626e-1he0/drive-2-5-usb2-0-500gb-toshiba/dp/CS20307

wish I'd paid more and gone for 1tb as after 3 months of time machine backing my stuff up for me it is full already!
might get another one for storage of photos/music/films etc.
