Didn't Mike Ashley think he could make a chunk of money out of it then?
He has already made millions on the back of the free worldwide advertising he enjoys for his failing sports brand..
In my opinion he should be giving the club away ..
You need to put #Wendyball Spolier in the title....now I've wasted another 30 seconds typing this 😥
What's a spolier..no wait you might waste another 30 seconds telling me .. 😆

So likely a very good idea of the potential of the [s]business[/s] then. Sorry i mean club.
Nothing wrong with running it as a business ..as long as the owner also has a bit of passion and wants to see a successful team ..just taking part has never been what I would term " success"
If at the start of each season we had a team that was capable of challenging for honours ..that to me would be success .
If on the other hand we had a team that actually won something ..anything ..the party would last for years !

Haven't they won the championship a few times in recent years? (Genuine question as much as a dig)
Challenging takes a huge amount of investment (occasional blips like Leicester aside and even then look at who came 2nd-6th) it's nothing to do with the club's potential, it's to do with the owners potential bank balance. If abramovich had bought Sunderland you'd see them contesting the PL instead of Chelsea. If clubs had potential Newcastle could convert that regardless of squad or manager and Manchester United would have done well under Moyes. It's the same as horse racing, buy the best horse and the best trainer etc. with a bit of luck you'll win but no amount of history for the stables will make a donkey competitive.
Yep ..Im totally aware of everything you have said ..that's why I'm quite excited that there is interest from a clutch of Billionaire investors from China,Middle East, America & Turkey ..some of whom have signed non disclosure agreements ..
We have heard all of this before of course ..but there is a feeling that he genuinely wants to sell this time ..with a time frame of prior to Christmas ..and what a present that would be.
I imagine so! Then just too convince some stars they want to live in "of course we've got running water, it's not called the river Tyne for nowt" Newcastle 😉
full potential of the club
Newcastle have achieved their potential under Ashley, one decent finish, relegated and promoted. Their “potential” is to remain in the PL.
Why should Newcastle do any better than Southampton for example ?
I think he means the potential to be bought by some foreign corp, packed with mercenaries and propelled into CL contention.
Man City didn't have all that much potential once.
Does this mean that it'll be re-named back from the Two Trackies for a Tenner stadium? 😉
I remember reading an article when he bought Newcastle that he just wanted a premiership club, and he didn't care which. The reason was because Nike and Adidas didn't take Sports Direct seriously and wouldn't deal with him directly, so he knew that owning a club would get him a seat at the top table, and direct supply from the big boys
Whether thats true or not, he's obviously a complete ****, and I can fully see why you want rid of him.
its difficult to think of his finest moment, but I think appointing JFK, and the subsequent surreal press conferences probably nailed it
I will take success whichever way it comes ..the fact that I've waited a lifetime to see the team win anything ( apart from the Fairs Cup) ..if it has to be " bought " in the same way as it is for Chelsea , Man.City , Man.Utd et al ..then so be it ..
Jambalaya..you sound like one of those folks who believe taking part is just enough ..while my mentality has always been if I'm taking part and it's competitive then I'm in it to win it ( which is why I don't race !)..thats what I want to see from my team..
You also sound like you have been listening too much to the southern press & so called pundits who are always banging on about how Geordies think we have a divine right to win everything in sight and that we are a bigger club than we think we are ..utter bullshit!
If Southampton finish above us in the league ..then they will have deserved to ..all I want to see is a team that can give us a little bit of success..however that happens 😀
It should be exciting times hodgynd, I for one can't help but notice Ken Bates is about due another club...
😆
Is he still ticking ?
I believe so, and i can point you in the direction of a lot of Leeds fans who would happily have swapped you even a shiny backed version of Ken Bates for your dog eared plain sticker Mike Ashley.
(Do they still do football stickers?)
(Do they still do football stickers?)
My confident answer to that question is 'yes'. They're all over the floor of my kids' room.
Yes I can see that ..from a business perspective then he has done an excellent job and we should be thankful that he has put us in the position of being a reasonably attractive proposition for someone to buy ( hopefully an owner who wants to compete with the big boys ) ...
Unfortunately there really just has not been a genuine connection with the fans and in his time here he has dropped some total bollocks ..Dennis Wise, Alan Pardew ..JFK !..re-naming the Stadium ..Wally with the Brolly ..false promises to the best manager we have ever had ( Keegan included) ..and the biggest sin of all no communication at all ( 2 Sky Sport interviews apart ) .
His sole interest has been to buy young potential develop them & and sell on at a profit..to the detriment of the team which is why we have been relegated twice in his time here ..
If we hadn't gained promotion last season then I could see us doing a " Leeds " ..he was lucky he had the right manager in place to achieve that .
As an Albion fan I only have a passing interest in anything other than the middle/bottom of the table...but even I recognise that Newcastle are a massive club.
Their gate has to be double Southampton’s? If not, it’ll be close.
Having said all that ..the club is still under investigation by HMRC for tax irregularities surrounding transfers..
I wonder if this has any bearing on why he (Ashley) wants a lightning quick sale prior to Christmas..?
Does he need the money to pay the tax bill..as surely he will still be held accountable if he is no longer at the club..or is he trying to dump the liability onto the new owner ?
Nothing would surprise me when it comes to this scrote..
