I’m part of a research group and we’re investigating the use of caffeine, carbohydrate and cooling strategies within sport. We need people to complete a short online questionnaire about their experiences.
The research is aimed at recreational and competitive sports people, both amateur and professional.
It’s a quick online questionnaire so it would be great if you could take a look at the link:

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
Best wishes and happy trails,
Chris

Done, hope it helps
Thank you
I notice 'espresso' wasn't one of the options for the form of caffeine you take.
I love a good survey 🙂

Thanks both. All the responses are much appreciated for sure!
you must have hundreds of middle-aged bikers in there by now !
Survery done. Also think that an option for taking caffeine in the form of coffee should be on there.

As in liquid, which covers coffee, coke, etc...
unless you were thinking coffee ice cream?

Brilliant. Thank you everyone
Bump for any more....please!
I have completed it.
Temperatures in my gym can go above 25C in the summer and I would love to find a good strategy that would really cool me down.
Thanks @hohum , if you completed the contact bit at the end you may be part of the follow up interviews which will talk more about cooling strategies
@cjr61, yes, I did fill the bit in at the end as I would be quite happy to participate in any further group discussions on this subject.
Much appreciated

Last call for anyone who can help please.
Many thanks

When caffeine came off the banned list I started using it in races. I would abstain for a month before my A races (banging headaches) that use (I forget the amounts now) pre race.
I suspect the only significant difference it made was making me annoyingly talkative post race!
Thanks all.
@convert lots of different strategies floating around for caffeine use. All very individual though. Not sure I could manage with a month off my morning coffee though!
Done.
I'm open for further discussion, can't remember if I put that in the response. It's an interesting topic.
@convert I was told it was of most benefit when you get really tired in a long race. So abstain (for a week, be reasonable!) and then don't take anything until you're really knackered 4-5 hours+ in, and off you go. For me, anecdotally, it has no effect up front but it works when I'm really tired either training or ITTing, abstaining isn't necessary for this to work, but it might increase the effect. I know the garages on long rides to stop at for a Coke or a Red Bull 🙂

Yes, I did that too, It was traditional for ironman feed stations to have flat coke available at the back end of the run. Not sure if that's still a thing as my triathlon days are long behind me. And obviously the caffeine gels.

Yes, I suspect it's got a bit more scientific and clever now.
Randomly related - I've been struggling with chilblain like symptoms in my toes the last few winters and it started again recently. Cold biking I'm thinking. I read around and the NHS suggests avoiding caffeine in drinks as an aid to recovery. I drink a lot of coffee. A lot. So I stopped and 48hrs later my symptoms are completely cured. I can't work out if I'm joyous or absolutely gutted. Winter equalled copious black coffee to me.
Whilst we are on this tangent, I've found that adding plenty of electrolyte mix to my carb and recovery drink has almost eliminated my irregular heartbeat symptoms, and it appears to have really boosted my performance via general energy levels. I've read that caffeine can cause electrolyte loss, and that electrolyte imbalance can cause heart beat irregularities. And also that lack of electrolytes in general is a cause of fatigue. I sweat a lot, and I love my coffee, so they could all be linked.
