My sons Playstation Account has been banned and deleted. He basicaly received an email telling him as much. No warning, no mediation, no right of reply and a pretty anonymous customer service is this normal?
He's obviously upset as he says he's lost all his in game credits/bonuses progress records money/credits whatever that is.
Seems incredibly abitrary
Anyone with any knowledge of these things or experience, advice?
NB He's 15 but has an account that indicates he's over 18 (dons PPE for the flaming)
Sounds like it will be a good lesson in loss and also how to behave responsibly online.
What else has he been up to? Getting into ‘heated debates’ with others?
I would suggest that there is likely something else behavioural at play here. That said, they don't ban accounts easily. You can sometimes get it for hacking/cheating as well but think that is normally on a game by game basis.
Are you sure its been deleted? They might ban people from online play but I'd be really surprised if they delete the account and lose access to purchased things.
Check the email is genuine and find a support number to contact.
Apparently the notification email is meant to give a general reason for the banning.

legal games?
the reason specified in the email is as follows
An attempt to defraud someone, access their account, or obtain their personally identifying information without consent.
I guess I would just like to see some evidence from Playstation that this has happened rather than just being told it has and this is the consequence.
Well, has he?
I'd very much be asking what he thinks he might have done to initiate this - I suspect he's got at least some idea...
also, any evidence his account's been hacked/has he shared account details with a friend?
I agree. I don't think they hand out permanent bans too easily. It stops them making money.
Precautionary pudding hiatus until you get to the bottom may be in order.
My sons often get bans on Xbox for swearing etc... But only 1 week at the time.

What does your son say about all of this? Otherwise you jsut kinda sound like that parent that goes straight to the school as soon as your kid gets themselves in trouble
It's either a scam or he's ignored the previous warnings about his behaviour, they do complete bans but it takes a serious offence or a lot of smaller ones to be banned completely.
Has he shared his account details with someone who has misused them?

Not the most use in this case but my only experience on Sony/PlayStation customer service was appalling.
My daughter was scammed/tricked into paying for £20 of credit by someone using her phone (yep she was stupid and had a suitable conversation afterwards etc and phone account locked down, hindsight and all that!) and when we found out and contacted Sony to explain we didn’t even have a PlayStation or any Sony devices and that she had been conned/scammed/tricked/whatever they just basically stonewalled us. Had zero interest in helping but were quite ok taking the money and said speak to phone operator as the Sony account the money had gone to wasn’t ours.
Maybe standard practice but left a sour taste at the utter unwillingness to deal with it in anyway.
Anyway, as others have said, I’d imagine son has an idea what’s happened here and ‘maybe’ he’s tried something similar to what my daughter experienced but got caught. Either way it sounds more than just name calling when losing.
Going off my experience though, good luck getting Sony to help you figure out what’s going on.
About 5 years ago my lad (then 13) set up a bogus account over gmail and racked up some expenses on my card (teach me to be casual about such things) and when I tried to contest it all I got short shrift from Sony and our playstation was banned from online activity and has remained blocked ever since. They lock the machine and not just the account so neither of us could play online.
I now make sure I keep an eye on the younger brothers on line gaming.
